Purchase advice

Hello, long time lurker first time poster. I'm currently looking at a new weekend toy and this will be my 1st M car, super excited. I'm a longtime fan, I've owned 5 BMW including my current daily, G30, and my forever car, E46 ZHP 6spd. I did my research for a fun car that's going to give me power, pleasing to look at, and cost wise. I've narrow down to the following vehicles, and I'd appreciated very much if I can get some advice especially from those that have owned these before.

1. 2018 M4 Gray w/ 75k miles for $40k
Competition, Executive

2. 2019 M4 CS w/ 64k for $53k

3. 2014-2016 base 911 for ~60k-65k
I love the 911 but I can't afford their GTS and I'm not sure if the base model can beat an M4.

I'm leaning towards the CS but is it worth 13k over the competition? for me, I love the F platform looks over the new model. Yes it's almost 10yrs old but I just can't bring myself to paying something I know will never grow on me. This will be a weekend toy. Hoping for some feedback, tysm!

CS if you want to track the car or weekend car. If performance is not number one on your list then comp is a great car as all rounder with a few more creature comforts compared to the CS.

2019 BMW M4  [9.63]
A base 991.1 911 non-S is going to be slower in a straight line and on a track than an BMW M4. You’re down like 80 HP and like 120 ft/lbs of torque. But you do gain a naturally aspirated engine that you can rev up and it’s a sports car first platform. A lot of people get the S for the 991 with Sport Crono. You must have this package lol.

Unless you go for a 992, you can get a base 911 and it would be on par if not slightly better than a G82, not a G82 Competition.

The 2018 you’re going to get a lot for money since you get the competition package AND executive package, but if you want a track focused car, you want the least amount of luxury and features which will lean towards the CS. The CS is a much better track car hands down. It’s pretty striped down and loses a lot of creature comfort.

I own both a 992 TTS and F82 M4 and driving dynamics is very different between the two. You can literally feel the compromises in the F82 if you drive them back to back and yes, you can feel it on normal driving because of certain characteristic I can’t really put to words but I’ll just say “handling and body roll” lol. If you come from some other car like a normal 3 series then you won’t notice the “compromises” I mention.

I would go with the M4CS this car is unique and different from other M4, have you test drive the two version to compare?

Regardless which you choose those M4 prices seem quite high, I would expect those prices on 40-50k mile examples.

I’ve only drove a comp, not cs yet. This will be a weekend/track car.

Expand your search, even if you still buy local, use prices at other dealers in negotiating. Would rather have a car with 1/2 mileage as what you stated for few thousand more. Below those are listed prices, with negotiating not far from your examples and they are 2 quick examples found.

Were your examples at BMW dealers or other?

I agree. The Comp with 75k miles and the CS with 64k miles are priced high at $40k and $53k, respectively. For $5k more you can get a CS with <= 45k miles and for $10k more you’re at <= 35k miles. The link above for the CS with 35k miles is $10k more than your 64k miles at $53k and that’s before negotiating! If you’re looking at base 911s in the mid $60k then why not get the lowest mileage CS you can get for mid $60k? That’s what I’d do. However, if you’re looking to build a track car, then I’d get the best f82 for the $40-45k range and put in $20-25k of track mods. I would not care about whether it’s a comp or cs because you’ll be installed a new suspension, brakes, cs or gts or stage 1 ecu tune, etc. to make it a better performing track car. You could also look at MY 15-16 to save even more, get lower mileage, etc. and potentially have an even higher track budget! I absolutely love my ‘16 base with all of the track mods and it’s far superior to a cs.

I haven’t negotiate yet. Going to see both this weekend. I’d like to get lci only as I want to be able to get the upgraded headlights. From talking with the sellers and pics, it seems clean aside from mileage being a bit high. I’ll pull trigger if they have good maintenance records.

CS, but you can do much better mileage/price wise. I’d look for one with sub 30k miles for around $60k. There is no better car for the money.

How much should I pay for the CS? Just got the carfax and there’s 1 accident reported albeit minor.

CS has a lot of upgrades for only $13k. The carbon OEM hood alone I think is almost 6K. Then all the other carbon bits , the lightweight wheels, the chassis engine suspension and MDM unique settings, special interior, etc. Price seems a little high for 64K miles though.
