Question for new owners of MY20 regarding seats

So my original order included second row bench instead of captains chairs as I have 3 kids and wanted the ability to have all 3 in the second row when full cargo room was needed. I ended up “settling” on coffee color as my first choice is unavailable unless I chose captains chairs. My wife really still wants captains chairs from the standpoint of keeping kids separated lol, but I still see value in the bench. I am however disappointed I’m not getting my first interior color choice so I’m trying to find a reason to change my order to captains chairs. My question for the model year 20 owners is has the speed of the 3rd row entry been something bmw improved over 2019? If you are not using the feature of the chair moving for access to the 3rd row, would you worry about damaging the cup holder area that’s in between the captains chairs? For normal conditions I could see my smallest child jumping between the captains chairs instead of waiting on the seats to move. In the end, I’m torn between getting my first color choice vs sacrificing cargo area on trips.

I plan on taking off the armrests of the captains chairs to make it easier for the little one to get in the back, I haven't seen anything about the seats moving faster in the MY2020, but I haven't thought about damage to the cupholders... I'll have to take a look at that too.

It is nice to have the 2 extra seats for when the grandparents are in town, but I must say, I side with your wife about keeping the kids separate. You could always get a roof box if there's a cargo need. Ours are currently 7, 11, and 12 (all girls), and I try to get one to sit in the back of our current 7 passenger car on any trip longer than 10 minutes. Recently, I've been putting down the middle portion of the bench to deter them from trying.

The seats still move at a snails pace in the 20’s. Just picked up my 2020 40i.

Lol. I tried changing my order to captains chairs but it was too late. I already see myself making someone climb over the second row.....

I ordered with a bench as I have 3 boys, I did the same in Q7 and this works well. I think bench is better choice for kids than captains chairs. I ordered the M50i

I have captains chairs and occasionally have missed the capacity for 7 people. But I’d order it again. My kids love having their own chair. They are 8 and 9, and they and their friends have never had a bit of trouble going between the seats to get to the back. Kids are resourceful.
