Lane Dept Warning

This is the setting I changed. From factory, it was set to reduced I believe. That caused the ping pong with assisted driving. If you change it to early, seems to keep it tightly centered on road and feels like it drives itself.

Only thing I don't like, while this setting is best for assisted driving on highway, it sucks on back roads - thinks your going over the line all the time. So I find myself having to constantly change it between early and reduced given i do a lot of highway but also a lot of back roads.

Needs 2 settings, one for when assisted driving, one when not

Have you tried changing this setting with voice command? i.e., "Hey BMW... change Lane Departure setting to Reduced"

I noticed this too, on backroads. Kept getting the “red steering wheel of death” warning, and the rather aggressive beeps! 😁 But, this was a pretty hilly, curvy, and dark two-lane road—about the worst case test scenario for the system imaginable. Just underscores the fact that how well it does depends on conditions, and that our highway infrastructure in parts of the country is not quite ready for autonomously driving system. Still, in good driving conditions, it’s really nice to be able to take it easy, just a little bit. Definitely helps with fatigue.

I think the feature is a total waste of money. Turned mine off after 500 miles of driving and it’s staying off.

On some cars, it doesn't work at low speeds. 25mph or above only.

How is it on the X7?
I find it works well as long as the lines on the highway are clearly marked. Acceleration and deceleration is smooth. Works better than the adaptive cruise on our Escalade.

2017 BMW M3  [10.00]
2020 BMW X7  [0.00]
2019 BMW X3  [0.00]
2009 BMW 128i  [0.00]
Will this system allow you to cruise at speeds above the speed limit on the highway? I ask since I believe the X7 comes with speed limit sign recognition (my F80 M3 has this feature) and was wondering if BMW used it to limit the max speed the system will operate, as a safety feature....

Yes, the car will cruise above the speed limit. The car does recognize speed limit signs but does not place any restrictions on speed or cruising speed.

That may be coming in the next generation of vehicle automation evolution for BMW, where vehicles can automatically speed up and slow down based on speed limit sign changes. If and when that happens, it will remain to be seen if it still allows cruise about the speed limit. For now, though, not a functional capability, and not an issue.

Yes. The X7 is capable of cruising by the speed limit. There's a setting in iDrive 7 you can select adjust speed by the speed limit or manually.

But the X7 is not capable of this next step yet, yes?

Crap. This is the one feature I could not demo—but it was one of the features I really wanted and added to my order.

What specifically did you not like?

Anyone know if the 2019 X7 is going to get this update to iDrive? Maybe as an over the air update? Love how the graphic captured the vehicles in the center cluster.

Saw this in the X5 forum, for a new 2020 M50i

It's great in stop and go traffic. It sucks at freeway speeds. It bounces from one side of the lane to the other and gets confused if the sun is glaring off the concrete freeways of LA. The adaptive cruise control works good.
