This thread is a wealth of information !!
I enjoyed reading it so much ! I am more and more inclined to do this myself. Can i ask where most of you got the H&R Sport Springs from ? Tire Rack has them for $243, i just checked. Renting the Spring Compressor from Autozone. Throw in Spacers at $100 Adding the optional ~$90 for the alignment (after 2 weeks of driving). and the "kool-aid" for the afternoon refreshment. Then we are looking at about $500 for lowering our F30... I much prefer to hear that ! Has anyone here performed the headlight beams reajustment ? http://www.f30post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=984464 Do we need to ? Quote:
I really wish someone would have snap or at least instagram their DYI ??! Expect to pay $200 or even more for spacers with the longer bolts. I paid ($220) for H&R Spacers and ECS bolts. Macht Schnell (sp?) were a little bit cheaper. I did not need to readjust the headlights.

Thanks M-SP0RT for the quick reply.
Spacers that cost almost as much as the springs themselves.. ?! wow they are just metal donuts! For those curious of the look of dropped F30 with spacers, refer to this excellent thread as well: http://www.f30post.com/forums/showth...&highlight=401

The Front was definitely more than 1", the rear maybe 0.75". I did not take measurements.

I called up Dinan and ordered the springs. I called Turner and ordered
10mm and 13mm spacers with extended log bolts.

I ordered the Dinan springs online (dinancars.com) and the spacers and extended wheel bolts from ECS Tuning.

- from ECS website, they spec that the spacers 10 and 13mm are for the front only... Am i misunderstanding something? How are you able to put 13mm in the rear? Or Do you combine a 10 and a 3 mm? And which bolts lenght do you use? 35mm? 38? Or 40? Maybe i should just ask the questions directly to ECS. I think i most likely going to get all the parts from them and do the install at home to save money. Due to finances, i will have to wait until the end of summer before making a move. 3 more month riding high. |

13mm fits fine in the rear. I know that ECS's site states that it's for front only but I verified with H&R and they confirmed that the 13mm will fit in the rear. I already installed them with no issues. I'm using 40mm wheel bolts in the front and 43mm in the rear (again confirmed with H&R

not really, just use your pump jack and change the elevation of the control arm ever so slightly until it lines up. it will take a bit of force. The first rear took me 10-15 minutes of messing around with the bolts before I got them back through. The second wheel took a minute, maybe I just got lucky.

I know this thread is a bit old, but I installed the H&R sport springs on my F30 335i xdrive this weekend and felt like sharing my experience. Let me first say that I am a complete novice and was scared to break something on my daily driver. I had to overcome my fears big time take on this project. I am so glad I did.
Prior to starting the project I purchased some tools. I bought a cordless impact wrench with a set of metric impact sockets. I bought a pass thru ratchet and universal socket set and lastly a spring compression tool. Other tools I needed but already had. Hydrolic Jack, torx 27 bit, Large adjustable wrench, set of allen wrenches Jack Stands and chocks. The front was the hardest part. I had to cut my spring compression tools with a reciporcating saw (This part may not happen to you) as they were just too long to be used effectively in the available space. The only other thing I did differently was undo the center bolt for the strut after compressing the spring rather than the three bolts that holdup the tower. I found it easier for me to thread the strut up through the little hole. I used the pass thru ratchet and the allen wrench to tighten the strut up.My only difficulty up front was that one of the nuts for the sway bars would not tighten back up and kept spinning. I had to use the pass thru ratchet and the torx 27 bit the tighten the sway bar. Make sure you get everthing nice and tight or you will hear a cachunck sound in the front end on your test drive. The back was pretty simple. I removed two plastic covers on the lower control arms. The universal socket came in handy as the rear shock used a torx srew and an 18mm nut. The 14mm universal socket worked on the torx screw. The hardest part was aligning the lower control arms after the spring was installed. There was a bit of back and forth with the jack to get it to line up. Once I finally got it to line up, I hand threaded the bolt, raised the jack to apply more pressure and tightened the bolts back up. Once done, I took the car for a spin listening for any strange sounds as I went over bumps. Overall, I am satisfied with my end result. Hope this account helps someone else. Installed my H&R Sports on '14 F30 w/o EDC this past Tuesday. I did it myself in my garage. It really kicked my ass! Took me almost 8 hours! Really a 2 man job. Anyway...
I have a bit of "clunking" from the front when traveling over uneven roads at low speeds (>25 mph). It's not bad, but something isn't quite right. At high speeds I don't hear anything. What could be causing this? I'm going to inspect my work today to ensure everything is tight and I'm having the car aligned this Saturday. Could it be torque specs on the bolts? What are the control arm torque specs where they attach to the frame? I just saw that the top hat bolts (3) are only 18 ft/lbs? I know I over torqued those...18 ft/lbs is crazy light! Any suggestions is appreciated! Last edited by dcarp757; 06-02-2016 at 09:45 AM.. |
