License Plate...
OK....This is kinda an embarrassing post I just received my plates. I could easily put on the rear one because the rear frame was just held on by 4 philips screws. However, the front was a bit different. There seems to be some kind of screw but each one is covered by a while rubber cap, which I can't seem to get off. Any idea how to get them off without destroying them?

No stupid questions, just stupid answers..................... Those little white caps , if the screw is going through them is supposed to stay on them, and once it's on you should have some chrome caps that will "pop" on the those white things. Think of it as screw trim. Maybe the caps are already on them for some reason, and need to be separated Maybe try finger screw them in a little bit and letting the plate holder, hold them while you try and pry the caps off Maybe you're talking about something else, if so take a pic, so we can help.

best bet is to take it to your dealership and have them put on the plate for you. I thought dealers are suppose to put it on before the customer takes delivery of their car?

It is interesting the things that are different from country to country. In Australia, you can't take the car from the dealership until the plates are on, unless you are driving with a trade plate temporarily fixed to the vehicle (but a customer wouldn't do this, unless test driving an unliscenced vehicle). Thus the dealer would handle this...
Do BMW USA supply a set of instructions then? Makes me think of Ikea

Must be the same dealer I have. I just got my plates as well and discovered the same problem. The little white caps pop off (assuming they are the same thing I had). I used a pocket knife and just popped them off. I picked up some plate frames (so I don't use the dealer advertising ones) and when I replace them this weekend, I will probably leave the white caps off altogether.

I finally had a chance to get back to this and was finally able to get those white buggers off! They were on so tight that I couldn't find a gap to even wedge anything in between the cap and the screw...so ended up using pliers to create a gap, used a screwdriver (flat) to create a bigger gap and pried the cap off with my thumb nails...all in all, not pretty, but worked. This took more time than putting on the exhaust tips!! Someone should create a DIY for this!

I specifically requested that the license plate holes NOT be drilled into the front bumper. It's not a moving violation, so I treat it the same as tinting my car.
Hope you didn't scratch anything while that was all taking place Okiedoke... ________ WASHINGTON DISPENSARIES Last edited by HappyG; 05-17-2011 at 02:06 AM.. |
