21" Snow Tire Build
Thanks to everyone who answered my questions regarding 21" snow tire options. After some research and deciding I would like to keep the X7 looking the same in both Winter and the warmer months, I have set out to build an OEM snow tire set, with a $3K budget. Most of the options I see from BMW were in the $3.5K to $4.5K+tax range. I am cheap by nature, enjoy a car-related project and I am just not a fan of black wheels.
So the hunt began for OEM 21" 754m. Mind you, this is a winter set, so perfection is not my goal. Below is an update on my progress and I will finalize this thread with total cost when the build is done. Tires: Tirerack NOS special on 4 Blizzak RFTs $680, shipped. Produced in 44th and 46th week of 2018. They look great, nice and soft too. TPMS: BERU/HUF TPMS from the one and only RGSport...$140 shipped https://www.rgsportshop.com/index.ph...earch=g07+tpms Wheels: My cobbled together set of 4 has arrived: 2 fully refurbished wheels from Factory Wheel Warehouse (giving them a "A" rating) , $1,080 shipped. Well packed and other than missing the m-sport stickers, they look good as new. Not a single scratch: 1 fully refurbished wheel from Wheels Direct (giving them a "B" rating, they disclosed that the wheel had been dropped after refinishing and sanded/touched up down where nicked. I rated them a "B" because while there is the disclosed repaired nick (Price reflects this), there is also an area where the previous clearcoat had not been fully sanded down...either way, I am OK with this as again...winter set...$425 shipped repaired nick: undisclosed clearcoat imperfection: Lastly, my project wheel...wheel #4. Found it on fleabay, made a crazy low offer and the seller accepted, but then hit me up with $35 in shipping that was not part of the offer. After sending a message about the shipping charge, an unpaid item case was opened against me while waiting for a reply...this is what you get for being cheap . The seller was quick to ship, but communication was subpar. $385 shipped. My wheel guy is going to refinish wheel #4 for $150, which includes touchless mount and roadforce balance and also mount tires on the other three wheels for $75, so $225 total. If I have my # straight TLDR is: Two Fully Refurbed wheels $1,080 One almost really nice wheel $ 425 Curbed wheel $ 385 TPMS $ 140 Tires $ 680 Wheel repair and tire mount $ 225 little "M" stickers (estimated) $20 Total $2,955 I will update the thread with pictures of the final product and the total cost if I should run into any issues. Obviously, this does not include my time spent piecing this crap all together, but I'm a car guy. I love shopping for car parts and there nothing like eating a sandwich between meetings and haggling with an ebay vendor to score a "deal"...the wheel shop is right down the street from my office too Last edited by dmanb2b; 04-22-2021 at 03:35 PM.. |

Good job getting the wheel set under your budget
I am with you on the cheap mindset on wheels. I was exploring TireRack and Costco for the wheels and was planning on 20” winter set. I saw tires come to about $1100 and wheels another $1000, but non BMW of course. I dont see why I need wheels with the logo for another $1000 |

HUF TPMS came in from RGSport. Quick shipping from CA to NY. Now I have to schedule the refinish of wheel #4. It may be a week or two since my F30 is at the dealer and likely will be without the car for another week at this rate :<(

Kinda off topic but will 20" wheels fit on the x7?

Long over due follow-up, but I wrapped up this project in early summer. Spent about an hour this past Saturday to swap out our all season set, inspect brake wear and give the all seasons a good cleaning before putting them in storage...the Blizzaks seem just fine.
