"vehicle key: Battery empty."

That is what it says on my dash when I start the car. I replaced the battery in my Fob a month ago. I am stumped.

Why did you need to replace the battery in your X7 key fob? I have never heard of that error before, but if you needed to replace the battery in your key fob so early in vehicle ownership, which is pretty rare, that would lead me to believe you might have a defective key fob. Either that or your key fob was damaged some way - like taking a swan dive off a 2 story building and landing on pavement...

Went to my car one day and there was no response to the fob. I tried the easiest fix, replace the fob battery. That wasn't it. It was the car battery and car ...... Four weeks later and several new computers later I got the car back. That is why I changed the fob battery.

BMW had a bad batch of fob batteries in 2019. Many of us with 2019 G05 replace the batteries as a precaution. Apparently the coin batteries in the fob sat around the warehouse for several years and were not at full strength when installed new.

The OP has a sensor problem for sure.

Just got that message on my 2019 X7. Replacing the FOB battery now. Hopefully that is it.

I'm using display key. Another key, non-used fob battery died within 6 month.

How long are folks getting out of a key fob battery?

My previous MB with the keyless entry (comfort access in BMW speak), had to have it's fob battery replaced every 2-6 months. Many others on the MB forums have also experienced high battery drain when they have the keyless entry option.

This is my first BMW with the comfort access feature so wondering how long the battery will last.

My previous non-comfort access BMW key fob battery lasted nearly 9 years.
My wife's current X3 which is nearly 6 years old is also still on original key fob battery and doesn't have comfort access.

Depends on a lot of factors such as if the key is stored on your person or not. Everytime the key moves, it wakes up. Also, some people who wear tighter pants and keep the key in their pocket end up pressing buttons while sitting down. So, there's a lot of factors at play but seems 1-2 years is about average for someone who uses their vehicle daily.
