AT&T sucks in DFW (3hrs away) and that's being mostly flat areas here. I can only imagine how much worst AT&T will be down in the hills of Austin. IPhone 4 user here.

Verizon has been rock-solid for me here in Austin for the past 4 years.

I have an iPhone myself and trust me... iPhone sucks balls with signal and drop calls.... I have my work phone; which is also AT&T and I always get great connection... It's a Blackberry though - recently switched to Windows Phone 7 for work and wow .. call quality is much better then iPhone

I have several friends in Austin that has bad service with Sprint and Tmo.

Most of them have AT&T and Verizon... both good service...

I'm on Sprint and use an Evo-- it works everywhere in Austin except inside DKR, but I believe only AT&T has repeaters there with their sponsorship agreement. Fortunately, Austin was one of the pilot cities for Clearwire's 4G system and you'll find great coverage and really good transfer rates over 4G in Austin.

What part of the city are you looking to live and work?

I hate AT&T with the passion of a hundred jihads in the name of a thousand virgins, but they're pretty popular in Central Texas and seems to work better than the other carriers in rural areas.
