G07 LCI S68 Engine Oil Change (?)

Anyone done a DIY'er oil change and oil analysis on their S68 engine before the recommended oil change interval?

I think the oil filter P/N is 11425A33C43

...Just cleared the 350 mile break-in (currently at 600'ish) and I can't be the only one that wants to do an oil change at this mileage (and analysis)....

Am I?

i would wait for 1200 miles, thats the normal first change interval for the true M cars. you're going to see alot of wear metals.

11-42-5-A33-C43 is the correct part number that I used. I changed mine around 3k miles (wanted to do it earlier but life got in the way). Just be aware that resetting the oil service miles is a be tricky.

Keep in mind that BMW uses very low viscosity oil reportedly to make their gas mileage rating higher. A higher viscosity can make for less engine wear which is my preference, particularly in warmer climates. I got that information from my service provider.

I read on the forum "why do you change your own oil when BMW does for free?" Well, I am one of the rare ones who changes my own engine oil and also sooner than the initial 10k miles on new vehicles. Glad to read there are others.

Albeit the engine assembly process has improved with more quality checks, vision inspections and automation the oil analysis proves there are still initial engine contaminates worth removing with a $175 DYI oil change.

I am still under 1000 miles so not quite ready to change the oil. I did get the parts I needed from the dealer so I am confident it is correct. Just not sure if I will need all these parts until I do the change at 1200 miles.

S68 engine

filter set 11-42-5-A33-C43 which includes the O-ring and copper seals

oil filter housing plastic drain plug 07-14-5-A38-759 (may not have to change if not removed from housing)

oil 83-21-5-A2A-F99 Twin Power SAE 0W-30 Longlife 01FE (two cases)

I concur with the above and thought I would add that on the 40i care needs to be taken to avoid dropping anything near the hard-to-get-at filter cover. I dropped a socket and spent hours retrieving it from the bowels of the engine compartment

A data point - I was prompted for my first oil change last week in my '24 LCI 40i.

Mileage: 6,900ish
Build Date: 04/24

Service prompt: Time (Dec) - still had around 900 miles left until it was due.

Really interesting on the timing for me since it did not match up with 1 year nor 10,000 miles.

The alert will trigger with 1000 miles remaining before the service is due.
It's also not a hard 10k miles, it can go down faster with city driving. Iirc it's based on gallons of fuel consumed along with a pH sensor for the oil.

On our 2023 40i we did the 1st Oil Service at 6800 miles when the reminder appeared saying due in 1200 miles which would be 8000 total. The second reminder appeared at 13,600 just 6800 from the last change so we did it again. With two free Oil Changes before 14,000 miles, why do it yourself

This reminded me how I prefer the top assessable oil filter and dip stick tube for oil evacuation via vacuum pump on my Audi. Makes oil changes simple and cleaner than from the bottom. I am confident the vacuum tube removes all the oil from the pan and I finish the job with clean hands and garage floor.

I just changed the oil after 1200 initial miles. I was ability to reset the oil service date through all the steps in diagnostics mode, but it only reset the oil service date and not mileage. Anyone know in diagnostic mode how to reset the oil mileage. Thanks

Why are we resetting the oil??

When I changed mine around 5k i figured I would wait until 10k to take in. I get the notice earlier around 8900 so I took it in. At 14-15k I will do another change and wait until I get another notice before 20k to take in. I think I will end up getting a 4th oil change before the mileage cutoff for free changes.

I changed mine at 1200 & 5000 miles as always. My service provider may have convinced me that every 10K miles is adequate with the newer synthetic oils. He also mentioned that the BMW 0W-X recommended oils are so that higher gas mileage can be claimed for the vehicle due to the lower viscosity. That may not be the best for engine life.
