e92: Limited extras, bad for resale?

Hi,

I'm about to pull the trigger on the following e92 m3 2013 setup:
Space Gray Metallic - $550
Palladium Silver/Black/Black - $1,250
Titanium Shadow trim - $0
19" Light alloy Double-spoke wheels style 220M-with performance tires - $1,200
M Double-clutch Transmission with Drivelogic - $2,900
Comfort Access keyless entry - $500
Park Distance Control (rear only) - $380

Accessories:
CF mirror caps, CF interior trim, Black Kidney Grills and maybe: CF vorsteiner diffuser ), CF front splitter

Am I shooting myself in the leg if I don't order heated seats/nav/... for resale 3-4 years down the road? I just added what I really want and don't want to spend on things I don't need...but after my dealer told me he hasn't seen a BMW without a LCD dash/Nav for years it got me thinking...

What do you guys think?

Thanks!

Agree w/ tech here. There are some enthusiasts who will say the car is better taking a minimalist approach and avoiding things like Nav. The reality is that the majority (and I think a wide majority) of BMW buyers are not enthusiasts who are looking to save a few pounds for the track or are generally not fond of all the bells and whistles on cars these days. Most second hand buyers will want the Nav IMO...

Might make private sale slightly more difficult but any dealer will gladly take your car on a trade-in.

agree with the majority... i learned my lesson some years ago, when i noticed the first thing out of perspective buyers mouthes for sale/lease transfer of my cars was;

1. does it have nav?
and
2. does it have heated seats??

i've had people walk away before because i didn't have heated seats and or nav... and i live in california where we might use the heated seats all but 5 times a year... go figure...

Slightly off topic, but this is just my $. 02, if I were ordering a new one I'd consider the 18's and opt for some lighter weight aftermarket forged 19'' wheels. BMW OEM aren't heavy, but they're around 25lb. Plus you can usually find factory 19's on here pretty cheap (probably less than $1200) if you decide to go that route down the line. I didn't think about it when I bought mine, but now I'm dying for some 18-20lbs wheels. That may just be my obsession though!

FWIW, when I was looking for my M3, it had to had nav and heated seats. So yes, I'd recommend at least getting those. Then skip things like enhanced audio, satellite radio ect...

Same here. I walked away from many cars that did not have those two extras, and I live in Houston.

For both resale and features, get the navigation. There's other things besides a screen and a map that you're forgoing if you skip this option.

I think there is also a fundamental difference between new and used car purchasing. When buying new, many people tend to scrutinize each option more as they are directly paying for them and the cost of a new car can rise quite rapidly by adding more options. It makes people wonder, do I really need this? However, for used cars most buyers want all the bells and whistles because they are pennies on the dollar. $10k of new car options may only fetch an extra $1-2k on a used car.

I'm glad you brought this up! Do you mind posting a link to the 19" wheels you were talking about?

I would not buy a car without heated seats in Seattle. They are used at least 10 months out of the year.

I always think it's best to load up the car with options because then you won't be in a situation kicking yourself for not getting such and such from the beginning. They probably will not matter your resell value by much after 3-4 yrs but they will make your future sale easier for sure.

Search "220M" or "220" in the Wheel and Tire classifieds section and several will come up. They obviously range in condition and pricing so I'll let you select the one that fits you best. Good luck!

Checked it out real fast and there's lots of options, thanks! Got to do more research on this, I know nothing about wheels...yet . Since I'm already considering putting some extras on the car, maybe some shop can do it all at once for cheaper...

NAV is cool but no longer technologically relevant with what smart phones can do. And why pay $1,200 for the fugly 220M wheels? Put that $ toward the comp package and a carbon fiber rear wing and forget all that other CF stuff.
