New Owner 335i GT (plus my review)
Hello to all,
I picked up my 335i GT in Munich (ED) at the end of November and immediately drove it through Lichtenstein, Zurich, Luxembourg, Brussels, Bruges, and Antwerp. Dropped the car off at Antwerp and then flew back to NY from Amsterdam. It was an awesome journey and I am now awaiting re-delivery in January. The car is white with blk, has M-Sport, DHP, HK, DA package and heated seats. My previous car is/was an Infiniti G37S (rwd coupe) and some of my previous rides ranged, over my many years of driving, from a Mustang GT to a Lexus GS430. Having read lots of reviews but having been unable to find a 335GT for a test drive, I test drove a 328 GT without DHP or Sport and then pulled the trigger. I found that the 335GT was a pleasure to drive on European roads (especially the Autobahn). Once more or less broken in, the car could comfortably cruise at 120-130mph. I doubt that it will ever see that kind of speed ever again once it arrives to the US. Autobahns are awesome (though not everywhere). I thought that the transmission (I would have ordered the sport trans even if it did not already come standard on the GTs) to be very responsive and unlike my Infiniti transmission, it did not even need to be paddle shifted all the time. The suspension is significantly softer than that of a 335i sedan, but I was perfectly ok with that. I hope that it will be compliant enough with run flats on beat up NY roads and that the run flat sidewalls hold up to the potholes (heard a lot of negative feedback). I thought that the car looks much better with the 19s (18 look too small) but I did not want to deal with summer tires again and switch them out in the winter, so I went with the 18s. The DHP is well worth the money, you can definitively feel the difference between the two settings, and I reconfigured the sport setting to "chassis only" in order to keep the rpms lower on the highway. Maybe someone can shine some light on this for me, but I suspect putting the transmission into sport, has the same effect as the sport setting of the console switch when the sport mode is configured to "chassis and throttle." I really liked the HK audio. Once cranked up like some music deserves, it was much clearer and with less distortion than the regular audio (although I would say that at lower volumes they sound about the same). Being used to fully loaded jap cars, if there is one thing I missed, it was the lumbar support (and maybe the comfort access), but I will learn to live without them. My galaxy S4 with waze is my Nav, so I do not need that. Although I did not want to beat on the car until it had more miles on the clock, the acceleration was very strong and I really liked that the power came on at a much lower rpm that it does in my Infiniti. Having said that, I will most likely get the PPK once it becomes available in the US (BMW USA website says there is no such thing). Overall I am very happy with the car and with the whole ED experience and being that it was my first time with both, it all went very smoothly. I really enjoyed the rich historic culture that Europe has to offer, and also really liked how people do not drive in the left lane unless they are passing. The one thing I was not too crazy about was the frameless doors on the GT. i have them on my Infiniti also, but on the Infiniti they close much better. The BMW requires more of an effort than the regular doors on the 335 sedan. If anyone has any questions about the car or about the ED process let me know. I am happy to be joining the ranks. Al. Congrats, you will love it. I enjoy driving mine on the autobahn, I will probably be sick once I have to drive in the states again, whenever I get reassigned to the states again. You should have ordered the PPK while you were here in Germany. They have it available for the 335 GT already. I will get mine this spring or sooner.
Here is mine. |

I thinking about f34 msport 20d in white. Alex these are 18' Msport wheels? What do You think about the fremeless doors, I ask about the loudness during fast driving. |

Thanks all. Yes those are the Msport 18s. You can see that the 19s on joyriders car are sized more appropriately but as I said here in NY all season 18s are the way to go IMHO.
The car is a little bit noisy on the highway, but only relatively speaking. I don't know if its the frameless doors though because again my Infiniti has frameless doors and its not noisy at all. It could be the windshield or the tires or who knows. It is by no means a problem though. I enjoyed driving the car and I found that it really had no issues or design flaws of any kind to speak of. If I could improve one thing other than the PPK, which is just a matter of time, it would be slightly wider seats. Although I suspect it is not the seats that are the issue. |

Cool! I just picked up my 335gt on Tuesday and am in Fuessen right now. I considered checking on the ppk while here, but noticed tischer (getbmwparts.com) has "F30/F34" in their f30 ppk description, so perhaps it's available in US now.

F34 is in the product title, so unless that's a mistake it seems as though they have it.

ED 335GT
I just ordered a 335 GT M sport, in Mineral Gray last week. The dealer had one allocated to them to be built in 4 weeks, so I should take delivery in about 8 weeks. Your post is making me strongly consider calling my dealer today and trying to setup E.D. Looks like a great experience.

I am getting more than 13% off MSRP. Amount of time it takes is a drawback. You could get an early Feb date and then get the car back in the US around the end of March.

My wife drives the GT now most of the time, but I drive it whenever I can. I really fell in love with the N55 engine in the car. It's less the absolute power, but the power delivery, the way the engine feels and sounds that I find unique and somewhat addictive. Having a chance to take your new car to the autobahn at least once is a special experience. Merry Christmas. |

Al Did you get your car yet? Was just reading your thread. Was wondering your thoughts now that the car is (presumably) on US roads.
