Confusion over DAP package in '23 MY vs '24 MY

Looking at a '23 x7 40i and and 2024 - both have the ZDY listed on the spec sheet with the 5AU "active driving assistant pro" option. The 2024 also lists several more features- 5AX, ZN7, ZN8, ZN9 - is this just padding from BMW to justify the bump in price or was there a significant increase in functionality from '23 to '24?

2023 SPEC SHEET:
ZDY Driving Assistance Pro Pkg 1,700.00
5AU Active Driving Assistant Pro N/C

========================================

2024 SPEC SHEET:
ZDY Driving Assistance Pro Pkg 2,100.00
5AU Active Driving Assistant Pro N/C
5AX Highway Assistant N/C
ZN7 Act Cruise Contrl w/Stop & Go N/C
ZN8 Act Lane Asst w/Side Col Avoid N/C
ZN9 Traffic Jam Assistant N/C

Very good thread for context.

Basically, you get hands free driving up to 80mph (I think it's actually 85) on the '24 vs the 40mph on the '23.

You will also get iDrive 8.5 for the 2024 and with updated iDrive hardware (MGU5). This enables an updated UI which people may prefer (quick access to climate controls, etc.)

for DAP specifically
23 you can go hands fully off wheel up to 40mph (traffic jam assistant)
24 you can go hands fully off wheel up to 85mph (highway assistant)

separately idrive8.5 is snappier and has some better control interfaces, especially climate controls.
ID8 has an algo driven system that uses preferences for more or less of things like seat heating, wheel heating to determine when and how long to activate. As a result the overall control layout is much more of a set it and forget it experience. This doesn't reflect the reality of how most interact with their vehicles and the execution isn't great. ID8.5 moves back to a more traditional layout and logic albiet digitized, it expects the user to select specific settings for seat heat, wheel heat as they demand it rather than the car planning for you.
