I think the tires is a BS argument. It's an extremely heavy car and they are putting high performance tires on it so WTF do you think will happen? I have a Camaro ZL1 and yeah it eats up tires within 8K miles too. Sometimes I can get over 10K but honestly I don't drive it that hard 100% of the time, but heck if I did then it would barely get 5K miles.
Not much different from our own X7 owners driving on 22s in there M50 or M60s and barely getting 10K miles. It's a nature of the beast. Last edited by blutob2; 02-27-2024 at 09:34 AM.. |

on our x7, does wheel alignment and rotating every 5k miles help the life of the tires? 500-600 each news are $$$

10k miles on the current set of Conti SSR's (21") rotated and balanced every 5k miles. Haven't measured with a tread depth gauge, but they look almost new. Good alignment is key too.

Can’t rotate the 22s at all due to stagger. Pretty lame design. Just have to submit to the fact you are spending $2k on tires every 10 to 12k miles for summers. Swapping out for winters for those of us in the colder regions buys some time potentially, but you’re still buying a lot of tires.

But anyways, I went with the non-run flats to get more miles on the X7 tires. Zero need for summer performance tires on my X7. |

nothing surprising here. This was totally predictable by anyone with some commonsense.

Doing a bit more digging... I don't think our PremiumContact6 SSR's are actually directional, so they theoretically could be rotated side to side, though the benefits to doing that are probably negligible assuming you have good alignment.

Anyways, yeah rotating side to side really doesn't help much anyways. |

The tire issue was surprising and I missed the nonstandard wheel/tire part. I was wondering if the $30 to $40K Tesla "S" price reduction is accurate.
