Disappoint in the new M3...
Is anyone else disappointed in the 2008 M3?
It seems the M3 has joined the 3 series in losing it Distinctive Sport look. |

All of the usual elements are there - swollen wheel arches housing larger rolling stock with bigger brakes, unique front and rear fascias and side skirts, the hood bulge, vents and ///M badging. I love it so far.

Let's not judge the car yet just based on some spy photos of a covered up test mule. Hell, even the performance specs aren't out yet so how can anyone be truly disappointed without any performance figures or photos of the production version in all its glory?

to be honest I have been thinking the same thing lately...I think alot of the hype is somewhat wishful thinking...I highly doubt straightline will be that much more than a 335i, let alone adding xede to the mix. I just dont think it will have that WOW factor...I truely think it will lack in the torque area as well...that being said I hope I am completely wrong and the thing is just a rocket ship in all aspects...

I am sure the drive will be there, after all it is still a BMW and I truely believe in the "Ultimate Driving Machine" motto. I just have been disappointed with the whole 3-series since the exterior redesign. I have always liked the "stub" nose that is now history. It seems to have lost the visual impact of difference which I expect to see that same loss in the M3.

I didn't like the 7-series or the Z4 when they first came out, and dreaded what might become of the 3-series. But I began to feel a lot better when the 5-series came out, and by now have completely embraced the E90+ 3-series. |

yeah I think the smoother look to the 3 series is nice, (headlight shape is perfect) especially in person, however its those tail lights that I just can't get used to...
And also the back end on the coupe looks almost smashed down when viewing from the front angles. The back end on the e90 sedan looks more balanced IMO, too bad I like coupes... |

Let's just wait and see, am not going to be worried about something that hasn't been officially released yet. Till I see the real car and the real specs, it is all pretty much speculation.
Why worry yourself, relax and maybe you won't die young of a heartattack worrying about things you shouldn't be worried about. If you don't like it, buy something else.

I think the spyshots look very promising, myself. This has to be the most anticipated car in my lifetime.
Roll on 3/4 years time when I can buy one.

Craziness
Guys, you are crazy indeed. This car is going to have an fantastic power to weight ratio (even if it bloats out a bit more that we all suspect).
It will likely match or best the M5/6 in 0-60 mph which is damn fast, 4.2 s. The M3 historically does so and it should not be different this time. Of course from 100-150 M5/6 will stomp the new M3. As far as looks go it is always the same, many bash the new model a bit then 6 months after it is out and seen and tested by the mags everyone is literally drooling for/on the car. History will repeat itself again, as is usual. What I really want to know is if it will lap the Nurburgring faster than 8 mins. Since the car has been favorably benchmarked against the Porsche 911 and will have a better power to weight ratio I think it will! |

This is a useless topic imo,,, if you don't like the new M3 than go buy something else but never forget this most of the M3 fanatics like me buys this car not because of the look but because of the name M3.
BMW M3 was the best sports coupe is the best sports coupe and will be the best sports coupe forever |

Jumping to the gun a little too early are we? The official design of the car isn't released yet and you are having doubts already. Besides, you like convertibles and I hardly ever see a "sporty" roofless unless it's an exotic.

I have noticed that it takes awhile for the consumers to adjust to new designs, especially if they are enthralled and fixated on an outgoing model's design.
The E46 coupe has a smaller, more blocky design with rounded corners, which gives it a formal, but refined look that is very business-like, similar to the previous E39 5-series (a sedan I love). The small size of the E46 M3 lead to the use of flared fenders to accomodate the more aggressive footprint, which made it look even more aggressive. The E9x design is larger, with fenders that flare less noticeably. The body is more sculpted and fluid (as opposed to squarish and rounded at the edges). So in terms of the E46's traditional sporty look, the E90, E92, E93 are different, but distinctive in a different way. Hell, some are probably still hung up on the E30 M3 design. The E46 is no E30 either. Wait till the real thing comes out, and be patient. I imagine any significant styling reservations you may have at first will be quickly overshadowed by the car's raw performance. You may, in time, even begin to like the look of the new 3. |

I'm very pleased with the E9X 3-series design. Times change and so do cars. The E46 is a classic design, but with time, these new designs will set their own history. If you compare the new 335i with last generations coupes, the new coupe imo looks more refined, sportier, and luxurious.
