Getting buy back offer on '24 X7, get a new X7?

About this time last year, we purchased our first luxury SUV and got a fully loaded '24 X7 x40i. We loved the car but a few months ago, the assisted driving stopped working and was stuck in restricted mode.

7 weeks of it being the service center now and today I just got an email saying that BMW will offer me a buy back as they've tried numerous fixes and software reprogramming with no luck.

We really loved this SUV (fully loaded x40i) and am wondering if we should just get another one. We've even thought about upgrading to the M60. What should I expect from the buy back, and will BMW try and make it right if I try and buy another car from them?

was it a lemon law buyback or a trade assist?

Lemon buy back. I live in CA and filed the official notice with CA consumer affairs this weeks and sent them (BMW case rep) a copy of it. I had actually opened up a buy back case 4 weeks back with them but they said it take them 20-25 days to process it. They were pretty good and responded in 48hrs after me filing with CA on them doing a buy back. It値l be what I paid (tax and tags included) minus depreciation. There痴 a specific calculation they have to use in. CA so I知 guessing they値l use that but hopefully they deduct less. What痴 a bit frustrating is that I spent $4k doing PPF and ceramic coating on the SUV so I知 guessing I値l be out of that.

Negotiate that into the price of the new car. It's BMW's fault so they should have to eat it. Not sure if CA lemon law allows for such a thing but it won't hurt to ask.

Also, see the September incentives/bonuses thread. $3k bonus right now including X7s so you should get that on top of whatever else you negotiate.

California lemon law doesn't require it, but to the desecration of the manufacture/dealer. Should I ask the dealer I purchased it from (about 1.5 hrs away) or the dealer that the car is at (10min away).

has anyone also gone through this and if so, were you happy with the outcome?

I would look elsewhere. There are quite a number of complaints including fundamental functions such as Air Conditioning and the braking problem. I am sure others will differ, but that is where I am.

Honestly if my loaded X7 got in a wreck I would get a RS6 Avant or a 2025 Cayenne S/GTS. I want a pure ICE V8TT.
There is nothing BMW makes now I am interested in. If I needed a 3 row, I would buy down market like an VW Atlas and save some $$.

I was able to negotiate PPF, window tinting, powder coating, and chrome delete on a Hyundai Palisade buy back. I would definitely try.

that sounds about what a broker was able to do before incentives (10% off msrp and then whatever applicable incentives are avail, so net greater than 10%)

i would push for more especially from your selling dealer unless they were asses about the process. im guessing that you are in a buy back vs trade assist they might not have been super helpful.

My SIL and daughter's 2021 Atlas R-Line is a far cry from my wife's 2019 X7 in every area. Power, economy, build quality and materials, and road feel. I would put in some seat time in an Atlas before signing on the dotted line..........

I avoided the Atlas due to the reviews and Consumer Reports. It had horrible ratings. Now a Volvo on the other hand at least had much better reviews than the VW.

I had to do a Volvo buyback a couple of years ago which may have been an isolated incident. I will add that Volvo was very easy to deal with and had no avoidance tactics.

Yeah same with my Hyundai Palisade. Excellent reviews but it was still a lemon, however it was due to interior smell, not mechanical. But once I rolled in BBB, it became a much easier process.

Bottom line, every manufacturer has issues. I mean I was concerned going with the X7 due to reliability concerns but after almost 3 years, it's been perfectly fine.

A friend of mine owns a VW dealership. We were in the market for another vehicle for my wife. I got to drive and demo several 2024 models and the power is good enough to jump from 65 to 90 quick enough and maintain it effortlessly. I found the tech better than BMW in some areas including the gauge cluster. The ACC and lane keeping assist and semi autonomous driving is as good or better than BMW. There are all the right and necessary buttons in place on the steering wheel.
I don’t expect it to be on par with a X7 but as it’s a mid level vehicle and is only $50k. It has a German build feel about it. In general I feel Audi all through the VW but at significantly cheaper ownership cost and less hassles over a true luxury brand and this is the reward for the compromise. Keeping your expectations metered, it holds up very well. I would not obviously compare it to my fully loaded $130k msrp X7M50i BUT at $50k and with all its tech, you sure feel like you are getting a lot of vehicle for the money with very little ownership aggravation or risk. I have a few high end luxury vehicles in my fleet but there are times when a full blown luxury car is too fussy for how it’s going to be used, serviced and lived with and this is especially true with a SUV for how many use it.
My 2020 X7 has been trouble free and a joy to own but it is my flagship long distance travel vehicle and is pampered as such.

My wife just purchased a 2024 R-Line and loves it. She picked it over the Q5 and X3 she was considering after a 4 week evaluation and test drives of the 3 vehicles and price point was not really a consideration. The looks and interior design played a big part for her. She traded in her A4 on it for the V-Dub as the Audi was going down hill quick at its high mileage point and she wanted to sit higher in a SUV. I actually bought two new vehicles at one time from VW as deals become very interesting when you buy multiple vehicles at one time. I picked up a GTI as a fun, light weight fast daily stealth driver for myself as I had one decades back and loved that little hot hatch’s handling. They are so freaking fun to drive and its chassis is dialed in to perfection. It’s a great car to have in my toolbox of automobiles and complements my 911s. .
