Left BMW last year but my order for my wife is in!

Left BMW last year myself after 11 years but just placed the below build for my wife! This will be her daily and our family hauler on trips. Any comments/change suggestions are welcome! Managed to snag 10% off plus loyalty on our allocation.

the only thing i would note is that if you anticipate having to move large things in the X7, captains chairs might not be the best choice- the backs do not fold down, so you're limited to the load area behind the second row. also if you have car seats, the top tether on the captains chairs is in the floor vs the seat back, so the seat cant tilt and move without undoing that first.

solid build, basically the same options and packages i chose, mine has the factory spare, rear bench and the 22s.

Noted on the captains not folding flat, fortunately we don’t fully load up my wifes car. Captains chairs are a must for us after having them in her current car. I would love to go for the 22s but want to avoid the hassle of having to swap tires living in NYC. If it were mine it’d be 22s or nothing though

Do you have DHP? How does it feel on the X7? Impossible to find one with it to try but I did drive my friend’s X5 M50i with it and loved the feel (I also have rear axle steering on my Cayenne and it is now a must), it just doesn’t have the road preview feature like the X7 has.

Thanks for the feedback!

i've always done summers with a winter set, although i just switched to conti dws06 plus on the 22s, they released the correct sizes in the past year. but lately it hasnt been needed, i dont think we've had any major snowfall in the past 2 or 3 years. but for the potholes the 21s are probably better. winters i run 20s just for the additional sidewall. if the winter is actually cold and snowy i'll probably put those on but im thinking of sticking with the 22s if it stays mild.

I do have it, DHP is a game changer in my mind, the IAS feature mostly, i ordered it sight unseen. it makes the X7 handle like a much smaller car, i would say low speed maneuvering in nyc is on par with how my former X3 handled it. based on the specs its actually a slightly smaller turning circle than the x3. after the first week or so i forgot how big the X7 was.

the ARS (active sways) is a nice feature, the car will corner flatter than you would expect for a massive suv.
If i had to replace the X7 and DHP wasnt available on the 40i ( first two years it went in and out of availability) i would pony up the cash for the M60i just for the DHP.
It also apparently reduces some of the floatiness of the base air suspension.

road preview- havent driven an X7 without dhp so im not sure if its working and i dont notice it or not?

I couldn't agree more on the IAS, I have it on my Cayenne (called just plain Rear-Axle steering there) and it is unbelievable how the car maneuvers for its size. The anti roll bars are definitely a nice bonus in a car with this huge weight and size.

As for the 22s, again if it were my car I wouldn't think twice and would spec them but since it is going to be my wife's daily family hauler I think the 21s were the right choice in terms of comfort and convenience.

they are not the most practical.
even now on go flat all seasons they are less comfortable than my 20" winters, but im stupid and like shiny toys so here we are

21s with the spare are the best bet for practicality- if the factory all seasons arent up to the task in the winter (they are run of the mill grand touring all seasons) you can go with a good all weather- crossclimate2, quadtrac pro plus, weatheractive, etc, and still have year round capability

I wish BMW would follow Porsche's way in allowing you to select A/S tires even on 22"+

Basically my ‘25 but I don’t have DHP. For me it was a swap with an iX that was bricked and they picked up the tab so had to grab what was on the lot (or so I was told). My msrp is basically less DHP. I drove a loaner M60i and it spoiled me but in reality if you ever had IAS you don’t know what you’re missing. I now know but wasn’t in my wheel house to do anything about it. Enjoy. Beautiful ride

If you are going to use the 3rd row a lot AND need to simultaneously store luggage or pretty much anything else, maybe roll the dice and skip the spare...

When all 3 rows are up, your storage capacity goes to basically zero. The spare tire compartment is MASSIVE, easily holds 3-4 duffle bags. I keep fix a flat on hand in case of emergencies. Not super ideal but I do what I must to make things work, I wouldn't want any other large SUV.

You can always remove the spare if you need the extra space. The well is the same size with the tire removed.
