Just installed the OTA 07/2024.40 OTA update on my 2024 X7, and a few changes I've noticed:

• Auto start stop is now available as others have mentioned. I'm very happy this is available now. I've tied it to the two finger gesture shortcut to make it easy to activate.
• Ambient lighting for B&W speakers all match the selected color. There used to be an option to have the B&W speakers kept white, but I think it's gone now, and all speakers match the ambient lighting color. Doesn't really bother me one way or another.
• Under External Lighting, the various welcome lighting options for the front LEDs is now working. You can select from Original, Allegro, Vivace, Adagio, and they will change the lighting animations on the front LEDs. I don't think there's an effect on the rears. I have the standard LED DRLs, and not the crystal ones.
• After the update, I had to re-verify my main vehicle key against the steering wheel. So, don't update this without having your main key with you!

How long did it take to go from the phone to the x7? It's like 2gb, I drove around for a while and it's only 5%

Mine has been stuck there all day. I deleted the update and tried again .. still the same . . Talked to my friend who is A SA he said give it the weekend

[*]Under External Lighting, the various welcome lighting options for the front LEDs is now working. You can select from Original, Allegro, Vivace, Adagio, and they will change the lighting animations on the front LEDs. I don't think there's an effect on the rears. This feature is available since Spring version and yes it affects also rear lights. My favourite is Allegro especially for rear light animation.

When this Spring started to use this Welcome lights modes i run in to problem that one of Crystal daytime running lights was turned off when starting engine! It took a while (during process BMW changed lights control module but it did not helped) to figure out that issue is related to Welcome lights mode. After i found that in Standard mode lights are working but in "special" modes not BMW fixed issue veryn quickly.

By the way does anybody with 07/2024.40 experience issue that when Carplay is used on telephone widget is not shown last "Frequently contacted" persons?
When connecting phone just with BT it shows as before "Frequently contacted" but with Carplay not.
Asked BMW to fix but no result yet.

Are all these updates only for iDrive 8.5? I have a 23 X7 with iDrive 8.

I downloaded it on the BMW app first, then connected it to the car via Bluetooth and WiFi. The WiFi only worked properly when I disabled CarPlay on my phone or else the CarPlay connection would disconnect the car WiFi. After WiFi was connected, the transfer from app to car didn’t take that long, maybe 15 minutes? Just make sure to leave the app open.

If it’s downloading super slowly, then it’s probably downloading through the car’s cellular connection. If you don’t have an eSIM setup, then it takes a long time to download.

Ah, ok; I think it might be because you have the crystal lights that it worked before. I never saw a change with the standard lights after the March update, though I might be mistaken. I’ll keep an eye out for the rear light animation too, should look nice.

I have a 23 x7 40i, update popped up this morning. 07/2024.40.
Currently running 03/2024.xx
800mb download on phone, transferred and was ready to install after about 40 minutes of city driving. Android, s24 ultra. The file size seems to vary depending on platform.
Will probably set it to install when i get park at home tonitem

No need to do anything special if you use CarPlay since that makes the WiFi connection. Just drive as normal and it will transfer.

i dont drive often in Old Riga part but since we have this "brick" streets also in other parts of town i can say that X7 suspension with 22" wheels feels just fine there

Installed 07/2024.40 tonight on our 2023 LCI X7 M60i - iDrive 8. Can confirm that the ability to disable auto start/stop DOES NOT show up in the driving settings like it does on 8.5. Looks like us iDrive 8 folks do not get the ability. So sad.

For those that have lists appear in the Heads up display instead of the instrument cluster, did the lists in the HUD loose detail after the software upgrade? Prior to the upgrade both station and artist would show on Sirius/XM and both name and number for recent phone calls in the HUD list. Now just the channel shows for SXM with no artist/song on a second line and name only for phone instead of name with the phone number on a second line. If lists are shown in the instrument cluster it still shows the additional detail on a second line. I cannot find a setting to adjust the list detail in the HUD.

yup, same here. another reason it sucks to be an early adopter.
i drive in sport individual all the time so it doesnt really make a difference to me, but sucks that something like that (and the quick access menu) couldnt be made part of idrive 8

How does one tell if it's idrive 8 or 8.5?

I updated the system but I dont have ASS in options.
But I dont have circle AC menu and thought that's only 8.5

This so lame that we dont have access to idrive 8.5. It was released less than year after the 2023's came out I believe.

they claim hardware differences.... i understand that for the assisted driving, the older HU in the 2023 doesnt have enought brain, but for a button to disable ASS? a widget to quickly adjust the climate control?
