2023 X7 with Anemic Air Conditioning
I've just taken delivery of the newest gen X7 and I'm enjoying the changes, maybe not all of them, but it's a refresh over first gen and I like the refinements. One area not refined is the AC. I noticed immediately on a very hot Texas test drive day that the AC was anemic, at best. I'm not sure if they lowered the capacity of the blower motor or all AC bits, but it really sucks. I thought I was a little nuts, or that it was just a really hot day, so I've given it a few shots now that the X7 is in my driveway. To no avail, the AC is just plain anemic, and it is not going to work for anyone in Texas, or very hot/humid climates. I'm taking it in for service in a week. For 90k, I will require an AC that can handle the Texas heat. Everyone should. -I've experienced this before with a 2016 X5. The AC never worked well. A service advisor just shrugged his shoulders and said that is just the way it is with X5s. I sold the car immediately. I now have a 2022 X5M, and the AC will blow you into the back seat. It's perfectly functional, and then some. So, I don't buy, 'that's just the way it is.." I despise lazy service techs.

Every BMW I've ever owned, compared to an American car, has anemic AC. That's not to say something isn't wrong with yours, but they just don't seem to build the capacity in the AC that other manufacturers do. You could hang meat in my Ford pickup truck and use it as a secondary fridge if you wanted to. Where our X5 and 3 series before it both were "OK". It wasn't hot in the car most of the time, but it was never blowing snowflakes out the vents either.

No issues with air. Runs very cold here in Florida.
Installed new M puddle lights last night and did alot of programming with windows open and air on blast. Cooled fine. |

Have you tried Max AC on all zones? On my 2020 X7 it's really pumps but only on that setting. Also if you have it on auto make sure you have the fan all the way on max, the fan won't go higher on auto if you have set to low.

Long back, I bought a BMW while I was in Dubai. It gets HOT there; Texas weather seems like Cali compared to Dubai. It took close to a good 15 mins to bring the car at a temp where I wasn't sweating. Another 20 mins to just normalize (By that time I usually was at my destination). The BMW dealerships (owned by a single person there) had requested special heavy duty AC for the market which got honored a few years later. Texas/other hot states might take a learning lesson. |

All I'm saying is, there is not "special" heavy duty AC unit that a dealer can order.

My AC is outstanding. Mine will freeze you in a few minutes with 100 degree temps out side.
My bet is you dont have it set up for max cold output. This topic comes up from new owners so much I copied from the manual. Go into the iDrive and set the hidden dash flow temp to all the way blue(coldest). It is set mid temp as standard. Last edited by MystroX5; 08-31-2022 at 11:31 AM.. |

Thanks fellow Bimmer fans (so to speak). I appreciate all of the feedback, and agree, BMW AC just can't compare to good old FORD and Chevy strength...I actually don't expect this, but it would be nice if BMW could increase the HP of the AC to come close to American made. And, btw, the X7 is American made in another hot state, SC....So, hopefully the manufacturer will get the memo. My past German cars, Porsche, Mercedes, DO NOT have AC issues. So, BMW needs to catch up.

I heard lots of complaints even in the pre 2023s but my 2022 has zero issues with AC. I did change some internal settings so maybe that helped. But even where I live, we can have 100 degree days with heat index of 105+.
Does the 2023s have the internal settings too? Also unlike every other car I owned I do find it odd that with BMW and even in Auto, you still need to manually bump up the air flow. |

I have had a number of BMW's over the last 25+ years and never found the AC to be inadequate. Including my 7 years in Texas where the summers were over 100 degrees daily. It cools down quick and often I have to turn the temp up because my passengers are complaining it's too cold.
While I don't have a 2023 X7, the AC in my 2020 X7 is quite cold. We've spent weeks on road trips in 100+ degree weather and not once did anyone in the car complain about the AC being not cold enough. Usually it's the opposite. We're doing another trip this weekend and the forecast is 110 degrees where we're going. I do have ceramic tint on all glass in the car. I find that helps a great deal in keeping the interior cool. We live in a very mild climate, summer day time temps are mostly in the 60-70's so family is used to lower temp. Plus my youngest son has a heat allergy where if he stays in a place that's more than 80-85 degrees for a few minutes, he starts to swell up and get rashes everywhere. So even being used to lower temps, they still complain that the AC is too cold in both my X7 and the wife's X3. They usually keep a sweater or blanket in the car, even during the summer. |

I will play around with the settings and report back. I also have a service appointment with a tech soon. Hopefully, it is user-error (but, I kinda doubt it. I've had over 20 BMWs).

Yes, what is wrong with me? Ha. Honestly, I've only had 2 AC issues, one with the X5 older model, and with the 23 X7. My 21 X7 AC worked like a champ. Maybe I jumped the gun getting one of the first 23s in Texas for new generation. Wisdom has always told me to wait a year, but wisdom doesn't always win. Ha.

I’ve noticed with new cars the vents aren’t always actually set to fully be open or oriented in the optimal direction. Just wondering if everyone has actually verified via each vent in the car. Other then that idrive 8 says it should be simple as setting the temp and automatic programming for it to “handle everything”
