FYI the length and channels of the wingbars allows accessories to be attached within the Thule product lines incase you go camping, tailgating, kayak/canoe, ski/snowboarding.

If anyone was able to buy a discounted OEM crossbar, would you send a link to where you got it? or the website? I was looking at BMW Parts Hub, which seems to have the best deal, although the part does not register for the current year X7 m60i... Would appreciate if anyone has experience with them...
The local dealer would charge full price. I am likely to do OEM crossbar and Thule Motion XL or XXL. Thank you

Curious....why are you deciding to go with the OEM bars instead of Thule?

Based on the threads, it seems it is much easier for the quick on/off, and I don't plan to keep it on except on trips. That said, I could definitely be persuaded otherwise. I am unlikely to open the sunroof while it is on, but I did not want to chance a mistaken button press and have the crossbar rub. There didn't seem to be a definitive answer on if that was an issue - with a loaded box on top. What have you done? are you thinking?

I would note - I am leaning towards the Thule Motion XL or XXL on top...

Looking at the Thule Aeroblade Edge, but you've got me thinking about the sunroof issue as well as the fact that I will only have the bars on when I travel long distances. They will spend most of their days on my garage shelves.

This is on Facebook Marketplace in my area and the price is great so I will prob go with this one:

What's convincing you on the yakima vs thule box? It felt like most in this group have gone with Thule and been happy.

Price. Especially since I won't be using that often.

What did you guys do for cross bars, OEM or Thule?

I am planning on getting the Turtle Air-1 based on a few recommendations in this thread - purely for the fact they are black, have a low profile and price.

Reading this thread, it doesn't look like any of these options have issue of sunroof rubbing the cross bars. I am more interested in aerodynamics and wind noise. Any insights into which one is better considering these two factors?

Anyone did the bars from 3Dmats?

I went with OEM from BMW Parts Hub. I believe they should arrive today. Price was very good. Waiting to pick up Thule Motion XL or XXL.

I went with the OEM bars. I didn’t want to have a sunroof issue and I found a great used pair on here. I don’t use them that often so I didn’t see the need to spend over double on brand new ones. These are in great shape for used.

Haven’t picked up a box yet but Thule Motion will prob be the way I go.

I apologize for the poor pictures, but like many here, I only will use these Turtle cross members (from eBay for well under $200) once/twice a year. They held firm with no issues for over 1200 miles at speeds well into the 90's. They fit on my wife's 2019 40i but these are on my 2024 40i.

Those of you who were deciding between Thule Motion XT XL vs XXL. What size did you end up getting and why? Thanks!

For those that have the BMW bars, reading this forum, i see that some have whistle noise and some don't. How fast are you going for that whistle noise to start appearing? For the folks that don't have any whistle, was it city driving or highway driving? I am seriously considering the OEM bars just for the fact that i can take them off easily when i don't need them over the thule bars. Thanks for any information you guys can provide!

If you're in a market for a new Thule or Yakima roof box, then both Amazon and REI have them on sale right now for 20% off. I just ordered Thule Motion XT XL for my future trips.

I’ve been on the OEM bars for 4 years and 20,000 miles and no whistle at all. Max speed 90 MPH, usually sitting at 83 on highways.

The ease of on/off removal isn’t discussed enough. I don’t need the bars on except when I’ve got the roof box on and that’s, maybe, 20 days a year. Takes less than 60 seconds per bar to install or remove. That’s the actual story.

I got OEM bars this week and they do have whistle noise at 25mph and above. I searched the forum and found a thread recommending putting 3/4" black electric tape on the black rubber inserts that go along the bars, and it helped reduce the whistle significantly, but not completely. The fix took me 15 min max. I'm not quite sure why some have the whistle noise and others don't.
