And as excited as I am to finally get one (put down a deposit in December), I feel like delaying a month or two could better future-proof my build. But I may also have misunderstood.
The 8.5 os and feature differences are not known at this time. You can say about every 6 months something is going to change and be upgraded. BMW is constantly releasing new hardware to provide more features. Every BMW I have had in the past has had this cycle.

The April release was worth waiting for as it was a major service pack catchup. Not sure what 8.5 will provide. BMW just announced a new HUD coming out soon.

My advice is order now if you want a car now. If you really don't need a car now wait until more is known about 8.5.

I have a ‘24 M60i on order (no allocation yet probably in 1-2 months), called to check things with my SA today and they have a ‘23 Alpina XB7 coming next week or so as the owner backed out of the deal, has everything except for full leather as it has extended merino leather, otherwise has the bowers and wilkins and bench seat which are my must haves. I transferred my order to it to look at it next week and to prevent it from being sold without tested by someone else. Any advise is appreciated if I should get it or just wait? Thx

P.S : I’m able to track it and it’s in quality check currently.

Not really never used it that much. I had a 2016 X5M and still miss the power of it, and was quite disappointed that the new X7 didn’t get a power push so this definitely ticks that box for me.

Anither thing my SA told me is that bmw is sold out of alpina xb7’s through the rest of the year. Another factor making me lean towards it is that the ‘24 alpina might get a price bump as well like the regular X7

It's a 4k price jump. New price is 149,400. I would order the 24 due to all the service pack updates and it's the next MY. I think I would just take the 60. The B7 is exclusive but not sure I would spend the extra money as it's not that big of a change from the M60. If the extra 30k is not an issue get the B7

Sounds to me you value the power/speed… if so XB7 is the way to go. I have a ‘24 XB7 on order now. Been stuck in status 111 for a while. If going for an XB7, I’d wait until the 2024 MY. Besides being a whole different year number wise, it will add the new highway assistant, the crystal headlights, etc. Dealers probably still have ‘24 XB7 orders they can modify since I don’t think any of them have changed to status 150… just have to find a dealership that has an order(s) in and can modify it for you.

I received my build date for the week of 4/17 - any idea how much longer until delivery after that? Have to turn in my 7 series by 5/2 unless I want to extend the lease.

I ordered a 23 before I moved to a 24. I kept an eye on the 23 and it went into production a week early, finished that week and was shipped out. It took about a week to get to the dealer about 1000 miles away. So about 2-3 weeks is the current time for my location. That assumes it does not get stuck in QC.

It’ll be close. Will likely make it in time. But if it doesn’t, I think you can push your dealer for a service loaner or something for the few days gap.

Thank you. So to confirm- the post April build includes the updated service pack? The same one that is in the 7-series already? So the same hardware? What is the post-July hardware difference? Thanks and Appreciated.

Correct, more details are in the long post from BMW5and7 https://g07.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1950013

and in the service pack thread https://g07.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=2003271

The only new hardware in July from what I understand is a possible new head unit that would support OS 8.5. What is unclear is what new features OS 8.5 will have.

How long does the X7 usually spend in quality check. I’m tracking a ‘23 alpina xb7 since last week and it’s still in quality check, could it be out of QC but the webpage is not updating?

Do you mind telling me who your dealer is? My dealer says there are no ‘24 XB7s throughout the end of the year, while anoyher dealer 150 miles away says she’s getting an allocation next month for sure. Thanks

You can call your SA for details. They don't stay long unless there is an issue or they are waiting on parts.

The issue could be small or something that failed inspection checklists. Some people have had it pass right through and others have been stuck there for a while. The US is better at communicating what the QC hold is than Germany.

I am thinking this weekend is when they will update. I was hoping it would follow the X5 but still waiting. They made some minor updates last week like putting extended black leather as an option again.
