What is this and where’s it from

Been meaning to post and it may be a ghost to chase. It why not, I got my25 a month ago and when picking up after they “prepped” the car, I get in and find this little thing sitting in the front passenger seat. The shop foreman wasn’t really sure and the SA suggested it’s something that likely fell out of one of the guys pocket who was prepping the car. I’m a bit of a if it’s a loose part it shouldn’t be loose.

Any thoughts at all? I realize this is unlikely to be anything worth stressing over.

Anything "loose"? If it did come from the car, it looks like a screw/bolt that would hold something down or in...perhaps during delivery...so that it could easily be undone.

If nothing is loose inside the vehicle...then perhaps the shop foreman is correct and that it was something that the "prepper" dropped as they were getting the car ready.

Without the BMW part nbr...it's almost impossible to tell what it is is/was used for unless someone is familiar with a screw/bolt/knob that looks like that from a past or recent project.

BTW, is the hole in the middle perfectly smooth/round? Or is it designed to accept a hex/torx bit? Can't tell from the pic posted.

Looks like a license plate screw that fell out of the guy's pocket.

Looks like an engine mounting bolt. I'm sure it's fine.

It is very small and I’m having a hard time deciding if it’s plastic or metal but that’s exactly what the guy said “must have fallen out of a pocket”. What license plate screw looks like this? Just curious more than anything

Hole looks like it’s perfectly smooth like a pass through and the whole “bolt” is pretty small talking like a small Lego piece

It’s more about curiosity, nothing I’m aware of is loose and it’s not a keep the wheels on part so more just I don’t like seeing “spare” parts

Hmmm, if the hole is smooth, again a design like that would probably be that this is something used to hold something down. Have you looked in the seat rails to see if there's something similar on the driver's side? There used to be a small piece similar to this in the past that would prohibit the seat from moving back too far and crush the rear seat passenger's knees.
