The X4 demographic
Well, I think I am it....
I currently have a 2011 335is coupe and I love it. However I am outgrowing the size of the vehicle and have been looking for options. We now have a 3rd child, and personal interests also having me venturing out of town more often to friends cottages, sports events, etc., so I have been hauling more gear. Last fall, I received a letter from BMW about a trade in event so I went to check my options. I have always loved the X5 but they were on back order until Jan/Feb 2014 at the time due to the new model release. So I took the X3 for a drive, very nice, but so boring compared to my 335is. It just didn't feel like an upgrade so I decided to keep my car. I like the X6 but it is out of my price range (everything is more expensive here in Canada). 90% of the time I am in alone in my car as I use it to commute. We have a Honda Odyssey so that's what we use for family outings. This also made me realize the X5 is just too big for my needs. I want something sporty and fun to drive (like my 335is) but with more space, XDrive as our winters are long, something easier for the kids to get in and out of, and more cargo space. So far the initial X4 reviews seem to read like this: Pros: Great handling, more like a 3 Series than an X3. Coupe-like roofline. Cons: Not as much storage as the X3 (but much more than my coupe!) Sporty, yet more functional than my coupe...sounds like the perfect fit for me! I am getting ready to put my car for sale, and order and X4. Now if only I could decide on a color combo... P.S., When I configured an similarly equipped Macan here in Canada, it is about 10 grand more expensive. Not exactly apples to apples.

Good points. What color interior are you going with?

Living in Sweden I have European taste : black interior with brushed aluminium.
Sport seats with cloth/leather Pearlpoint antracit/black. Last but not least: I finally decided for the very expensive 20" 310M. I have looked at a lot of pictures, they will make or brake it. 35i M Sport, all performance enhancing features. |

You can't go wrong with that combo, it will look great. I agree the 20" 310m wheels are a must!

Still playing with the numbers, the Macan is in a different class, and is priced as such, regardless that the 'base' prices are similar. I just need to decide if spending the extra cash is worth it to me. Test drives are a killer on the wallet

pokerface: I intended to buy a 3 GT, since it has 60mm higher seating than STD 3 series. I wanted higher seating - easy in/out due to age.
Seating was as my current SAAB 9000 T - and someone had thrown in a gearbox, where I want space for my knees. Testdriving an X3 gave me height and space I want, but X3 is a box. |

Well long story short, I put a deposit on a Macan but the lengthy wait time and stretching my budget to the max to get only some of the features I really wanted had me arrive on an Audi SQ5. I take delivery this week It's my first Audi so I am interested to see how it compares to my favorable BMW experience.
