For those that came from an E46 that had the Harmon Kardon system and now you own the E90 with the Logic 7, how do you feel it compares?

When I got my 1999 E46, I special ordered it just to get the Harmon Kardon system which includes 12 speakers and 2 subwoofers also opted for the 6 disc cd changer in the rear. I've been happy with it for the past 7 years. I didn't want a base sound system.

Since with the E90 there is no options on sound. Is the Logic7 better than the Harmon in terms of sound quality? The Logic has 13 speakers and 2 Subs.

Those that went for years in your E46 with the HK and upgraded to the E90 to Logic7, I'd like to hear your feedback, if you feel it was a step up in sound. I enjoy my music and almost always have CD's playing instead of the radio.

Logic 7 is ten times better.
HK had too much booming bass.....also, the new system has a center channel in the middle of the dash
that is really good at reproducing that "realistic" feel of the sound.

Go to a dealer with one of your own CDs & listen to it.

I agree with RichReg. His comment is spot on.

One caveat when testing the Logic 7: make sure you set the equalization to neutral and do go through the different modes (concert hall etc.).

I haven't been able to find any DSP features in my car; all I have is the basic "music" and "cinema" speaker settings. I don't have iDrive. Is that the reason?

It´s not really an upgrade, it´s a completely new system. The HK system in the E46 was not digital and really doesn´t resemble the Logic 7 system terribly much other than they are both car stereos.

I like it alot too,it sounds very exotic,cool,very sweedish...not your common Alpine,Bose etc.
I also like this brand,Bang & Olufsen,they make great products as well.
I guess HK would be a good thing to advertise on the tweeters,woudn't it?

HK isnt the sole supplier for the speakers, even for Logic 7. They are just sole for the amp.

Becker is the other supplier of speakers ( Logic 7 Speakers included )

THat explains it. No wonder there's no HK logo on the tweeters.

My E46 M3 had HK. My new e90 has the standard system. The newer standard system is almost as good as the old HK. Having said that, Logic 7 is a huge step forward over older HK, and significantly superior to the standard set up.

Of course Becker, harman/kardon, JBL, Infinity, and many others are all part of Harman International, the world’s largest audio conglomerate. They have manufacturing plants all over the world, so Becker and h/k speakers could have easily come from the same plant.

Another one of their high-end audio companies Lexicon, came up with a cool algorithm that can synthesize multi channel sound from a 2 channel source, like CD and radio. They called it Logic 7, and they've used it in h/k home receivers for a number of years now.

Too bad I can't reach all the Logic 7 functions without I-Drive.
