In all reality, the money you'll spend on paint, body parts, labor getting everything aligned and installation will be well more than what it costs to just buy one in good condition. Tell him you'll pay 6-7k for it. That is an investment you could recover from. Just remember, my 335i that needed repairs, with less than half the miles cost me 12.500 USD. If you are shopping for a deal, there are better deals to be had if you wait and look. |

In addition, you'd be pouring money down a rat hole, because nobody in their right mind will ever give you squat for a car with a salvage title.

dad used to use a salvage title rebuilt 92 corolla that he got in 99 and it still runs to this day. It was used for daily commute bought with 60k miles now has 210k.
I think the side skirts have been stripped off because the airbags don't even look deployed to me. I want some more advice though, keep the comments coming. EDIT1: The car will be used for a few years then maybe as a spare car, deff not going to sell it anytime soon. Maybe 8-10 years from now? EDIT2: klipseracer your car looks like it had a lot more damage then the car I am looking at. +You were missing bumpers/lights when my car already has all those. I am thinking I need 2 side skirts. A fender, what else do you guys think I need? |

This car was sold a while ago. Same color as the 325i I am looking at. I think parts were taken off of my car and put on this 330i. |

Shipping the car will only cost $900 I thought it would be more .
I know I am just asking people what I need I will make a list when that is finalized and see if it benefits me buying this car. If not then I will wait this seller has 100% feedback and has 3 series cars often with MUCH LESS DAMAGE that sell for $10k |

Yes, but my car has equity even after repairs and upgrades, a clear title and full warranty. Your car has none of these. Don't get buyer's fingers man, I'm telling you that is a dangerous bug to have.

Two things...
1. You get what you pay for 2. I call "troll" on the OP. Typical pattern... Brand new member asking what seems like an innocent question, but which is gradually revealed to be rampant stupidity designed to provoke a reaction. Case in point: "You were missing bumpers/lights when my car already has those."

Obviously you are convinced you want to get it. Buy it, pay a ton of money to fix it, then realize you could have spent the same money and bough a CPO car with a 100k warranty for the same price.
Just sounds stupid to me (and many others on this board). If you want people to convince you to buy it, this is the wrong place. By the way, My E90 was almost totaled in an accident. I had insurance fix it, and I sold it right away. Even though these cars are well built, a serious accident will change it all. |

There is likely less visible cosmetic damage to repair on this vehicle. The difference, is I have $15,000 worth of repairs I could do to my vehicle and still consider it a good deal. You couldn't spend more than a thousand or two TOPS before you were upside down, assuming that a salvage title and repairs, paint etc only degraded the value by $1-2000. It just doesn't make sense to me, you wanted my opinion and there it is... Good luck!

Make sure your insurance company will let you insure the car. My insurance company will not insure any car that has a salvage/rebuilt title.

It's kind of like buying a "fixer upper" house. If you've got the time, skill, inclination, money and patience to do everything that's needed AND it makes economic sense to proceed, go for it. Otherwise, stay away.

And like any fixer upper, you are going to get burned if you don't know what you are getting into before buying it. I own a salvaged 335i but I went through quite a different process. The shop I bought it from buys the car themselves and fixes it for an agreed price. I payed a down payment then paid in full after the car was fully repaired and went through independent inspection. I had the security of knowing what the final price is and it's wasn't my investment until I paid in full but I still got the discount of salvaged vehicle with the knowledge that these guys do BMW repairs for a living. In the end I am very happy with it.

A salvage title car will never ever be the same again. DO NOT buy the car. My first car at age 17 was a salvage title 2006 Acura RSX. I spent OVER $8,000 fixing it and taking it through tons of inspections and kept throwing money at it. Was it worth it? Nope, for all that I could have bought a clean title.
Even though after you fix the car, it will never run the same again, simply because the framework is damaged and can not be repaired. You will notice that the car has little problems here and there and starts to worsen again over time. I fixed the RSX and it seemed almost new for a while, except the fact that the car shakes a little more than usual. But over a matter of 2 years, the car completely broke down on me, transmission started having problems, etc... It's not worth it. I tried selling it back out and it took me half a year to sell it for $4,000 with plenty of mods on it. I seriously think I could have parted it out for more. |

No...its got close to 70k miles on it. The ebay poster knows what he is doing. Typical crappy pictures of the damage and decent pictures of the good side. It was salvaged for a reason....to do the repairs right cost more than the car is worth. Unless you own a collision repair shop stay away. I bet the guy bought the car from the insurance company for 6k. Lists it for double and willing to take 50% profit. He makes 3k and you think your getting a deal. Any angle you look at it.....you lose!

I've owned nothing but salvage cars for the past 25 years and wouldn't own anything BUT a salvage car. I like the insurance co. to take the loss rather than myself. I typically get 200K+ miles from my cars and have saved tens of thousands of dollars over the years this way.
My criteria is to put the finished car on the road at no more than 60% of market value using my own labor. So... if you're mechanically inclined, don't let these guys scare you away from a salvage car. However, go into it with your eyes open. This car seems to have too high miles and too much damage fro the price. Also, I would never buy without personally inspecting the damage so I KNOW what I'm getting into. You can probably get a better salvage deal if you shop around. I've rebuilt 3 low mileage/late model salvage units so far this year (a Lexus and 2 BMWs and I believe both were better deals. jmd_forest |
