Most Popular Preset Functions?

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
I had assumed that the 8 preset hard buttons next to the volume knob were just for my favorite radio/satellite stations. I now realize that is incorrect. I wish I could have those function in that way but I'm getting used to just toggling through from the steering wheel to my presets.

Question for this group is what are your favorite things to use those 8 hard buttons for? So far, I've only got 2 programmed. One goes to the presets for radio/xm and the other goes to the phone setup so I can quickly toggle between carplay and idrive.

Let me know your favorite uses...

I used one button for the HVAC sync since BMW did away with the sync button

1. Presets for all my AM/FM/Satellite radio station favs (which makes it easy to scroll through all of them using the scroller on the steering wheel)
2. HVAC setup to keep the blower running after shut down so that the AC funk doesn’t occur from the growth of mold/bacteria after pulling into the garage on hot summer days and parking in the dark with low air circulation.
3. Split nav map with entertainment info (for artist name etc)
4. Split nav map with OBC info
5. TPMS (quick access to see display)
6. Sport Display
7. Vehicle Service Info/Check Control Info (for quick access)
8. NAV setting for home (in case I’m somewhere unfamiliar and want the quickest way home).

1-3 radio presets
4 apple car play (easy access on screen, but I rarely have to touch the screen and it's a bit of a reach and a small area to peck at)
5 navigate home (left over from iD6 habits... I more often use "hey BMW" for this and other navigation needs now... it's the only thing I don't mind the delayed response for while it's processing)
6 trip data (rarely used, but I always stumble to find this in iDrive for some reason)
7 tpms (use this more in the M car and keep it here to be consistent)
8 sport displays (use this more in the M car and keep it here to be consistent)

SYNC is easy though, you just use the middle AC/MENU button. Or you can voice command it too.

1. Driver Profiles
2. Mobile Phones (to change the phones connected to iDrive vs CarPlay)
3. Interior Lighting (if you are someone like me that can't land on a color)
4. Sports Displays (to see Engine Oil temp since it doesn't show in dash)
5. Tire Pressure Info Menu (loving seeing those temps and pressures)
6. Sound Settings (love playing around with the B&W settings)
7. AC sync button (my wife loves changing hers and I love syncing it back)
8. Navigate to work

So many people are presetting AC sync so what am I missing? If it's set to preset button X, do you literally push that button and it syncs, or does it just open the sync menu?

Push that button and it syncs (or de-syncs if synchronize was already checked, but you likely already know if it was).

Ok copy thanks. I got into a good habit of just voicing everything. Trying to get into the 21st century and not use various programmed buttons.

Mind still blown.
I thought on our X3 (iDrive 6) I was able to program a preset so that I could quickly check tire pressures. On the 7, I keep getting “function not allowed” or something along those lines.

Although I am usually in motion, and have really only tried twice.

How does one go about programming the way you all did?

You might have been too far in when trying to set it. You don't want to have TPMS up on screen and then hold one of the keys in; you want to be in "Vehicle Status" and use the iDrive selector to highlight "Tire Pressure Monitor" then hold one of the keys in.

Yes, this got me there!
Thank you.

Ditto unfoundnemo…if you get the message “function not allowed” when trying to program one of the 1-8 buttons…BACK OUT one step…then attempt to save it.

When the kids are sleeping in the car and the music stops and the BMW voice comes on, it wakes them up.

I never use voicing as a result.
