N55 M2 - Purposely Coding Out Cold Start

I have a 2018 n55 BMW m2 with a full dinan exhaust (catback + mid pipes). Completely stock otherwise.

With our first baby on the way my wife has raised concerns about the loud startup noise, particularly since our garage is situated directly below the bedrooms.

I understand there are options like MHD or Mod3 which offer the reduce cold start noise functionality as a part of their complete license but I am not seeking performance gains or any other tuning at this time. Simply looking to toggle this one switch in the most economical way possible.

I have explored BimmerCode and BimmerLink, but it seems that neither offers the functionality I'm looking for. BimmerLink only provides flap control which would not solve the issue.

I'm hoping the group is more knowledgable than I am - curious to hear any solutions I've not come across / considered that would solve the issue in a cost effective manner. Maybe MHD or Mod3 offer "lite" packages or can provide a simple custom feature map....?

Thanks in advance!

Buy my BM3 license off me for dirt cheap in a few weeks when I’m ready to let it go (moving to EcuTek) and you can do this without tuning it. Shoot me a PM.

With MHD you should be able to just buy the “flasher” license. This lets you customize cold start delete and other options on a stock power tune (I’m like 99% sure) their support is good and will get back to you quickly if you want to 100% confirm. Adding link to the flasher license n55 info.

I have MHD stage 2+ current and have turned off cold start. Its great.

In the interim, if you want to be really cost effective, you can actually just lightly press on the gas for maybe 20-30 seconds immediately after startup and it will stop the cold start noise. I was doing this effectively prior to flashing a tune and it worked like a charm.

This is the best no-cost option. You'll still get a slight crack the moment the car starts, but it won't sustain.

I’ll beat that price and you’ll have BM3 with a full map pack waiting when you’re ready. And we all know BM3 > MHD

What didn't you like about the BM3 stage 1 map?

Just echoing the earlier post…. I really want to do this as well (code it out), as I have a loud active autowerks exhaust, but don’t want to tune anything else, and so the “cheat” works for me… I just hold it at 1300ish rpm for 30 seconds immediately after start. It works.

I think stage 1 is only meant for non m2 n55's. I've seen some m2 guys flash early versions of this map and showed lower power outputs than even a stock tuned m2. Newer versions of stage 1 might have improved this but idk for sure as I've never seen too many stage 1 dynos.

So imo with bm3 you should stick to stage 2 and up. Go stage 2 91 octane if you don't want to push it too much over stock.
