New Front and Rear Dashcam Coming

New review from Techmoan on Youtube, could be a good option:

Thanks for posting. I've always wondered why the lens(es) can't be really small and the actual recorder/screen etc located elsewhere. I hope this trend takes off and we end up with proper small (i.e. the size of say a sugarlump) lenses.

Be nice if the wires were thinner too but as he says in the vid that's interference screening.

Good spot, thanks.

I have a HD Blackvue front and rear, you can adjust the brightness settings on the PC, no issues. Paid £200 from Amazon, quite happy with that.
All wires pushed out of site behind headliner trim very easily.

I run a cheap G1W on the rear window and it's absolutely fine.

Got the blackvues front and rear no problem with privacy glass.

They are quite discreet to once you switch off the LEDs.

Same here, got the Blackvue DR650 Front and Rears after so many people recommended them on here. No problem with privacy glass on the rear. Only disappointment was the front camera was a little larger than I thought. Got it wired up so it records while parked too.

Have you hard wired these?
Any pics or thread of the install?

This camera looks excellent. I particularly like the ability to connect it to a car DVD player. Anyone know if we can connect this to the iDrive screen?

Hard wired in using the power magic pack. Not a lot to see to be honest but will get pics. Rear hidden by privacy glass but records well. Front mostly hidden behind shading.

Wanted to keep it low key and so turned off main led.

Thanks. Did you use a 'piggy back' fuse? If so, which one?

For the GFs car I used this - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2616423942...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

Not sure if the BMW ones are mini or regular size. But I got regular ones too just incase I needed them - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2314371382...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

Here's a picture of the install in her car, I haven't quite got round to finishing off tidying up of the Power Magic yet. One thing to bear in mind about if you have a touring (or any other hatchback) - you somehow have to get the wire round the tailgate. I didn't bother with this as it's messy I just ended up making my own homemade bracket.

I used a 4amp fuse in the Piggybacks as I think the power of the Blackvue can be rated up to 7amp - Thought'd i'd play it safe though.

Had it fitted by black vue recommended auto electrician so not really sure. He did go through the fuse box so I imagine he's used one of the original fuses for protection.

Do need to make sure it's wired into a supply that stays on if you want to use parking function. If not just plug into the power supply under the glove box- which I didn't even know was there !!!

On wife's 1 series had ours mounted onto the glass then fed wire under the trim and through the rubber cable hosing into the main body before running along the floor to minimise dab issues.

In the 1 series it would have been easier to do, but as Vauxhall are of the cheaper variety there is no plastic trims around the window on the boot. The rubber tubing just goes straight into the metal thus making it impossible to get any wires though without removing the rear window glass.

Surprisingly I haven't had any issues with DAB in the Vauxhall, is it just a fault with the BMW DAB with the Blackvue cameras?

I see didn't realise it was a Vauxhall!

Bmw run the dab cable etc through the roof lining I am lead to believe and this can pick up interference from the coaxial on black vues. Remedy is to fit suppresors at either end of the coaxial and run through the carpet area . This also avoids any issues with fouling curtain air bags should you ever need them.
I think the later black vues have a thinner double shielded cable which also reduces the likelihood of interference.

Have also read on other forums of people having issues with licking and keyless systems. Luckily had no issues myself.

I had read about those surpressors. I didn't realise running the cable under the carpet rather than through he roof would help - Good job I did that then! Shall keep it in mind for when I come to fit one in the BMW though

I've just noticed that Transcend are bringing out a new dash cam, the DrivePro 220, it has some interesting features over the already excellent DrivePro 200 that i have, namely a built in battery, parking mode & GPS. It also has lane departure warning & collision warning which i'm not too sure about!

I might get one and move the 200 to the rear window.

That looks good. My Drivepro 200 has been great compared to the 0803's I got through. Was watching all the footage of my car getting the PPK and its good quality.

Could well be tempted by this to replace it. Already got the cheapo G1W in the back though so it would become an ebay special

Something i can't work out on the 220 is they've changed the aperture to f1.8 instead of f2.0, and they've changed the viewing angle from 160° to 130°. I don't know much about camera technicalities so i'm not sure why they've done this?

Aperture will be to do with low light scenarios. 1.8 is actually a bigger opening than 2 so it lets more light in to hit the sensor.

The reduction in viewing angle could well be partly to do with the larger aperture, but potentially also to enable the lane change and collision warning systems to work properly.
