Alpine HID's on VO 1M
First off I'd like to say thanks to Alex of Alpine HID's for providing great customer service and a great product for the BMW 1M.
What I had ordered was the White Angel Eyes with the back covers that were pre-drilled for ease of installation. The product was packaged very well as shown below Pre-drilled back covers look perfect Product is of great quality and details to protect the bulb and all pieces are meticulously designed just as our BMW's have Onto the installed photos and you can see that the actual angel eyes are really bright during the day. Photos were taken around noon time. Contact Alex of Alpine HID's to purchase. Thanks again Alex. Last edited by Gtrain; 01-25-2013 at 02:58 PM.. |

how do these compare to Lux V3's? From the pics the brightness looks similar but I realize it might not be an accurate representation of brightness.

Yea that would be sweet. Out of curiosity with my previous HID lights experience, they tend to be very finicky, sometimes they dont fire all the time, have to cycle the power, also will it throw any codes? Thanks in advance.

Could anybody comment on this? While I like the alpines, I'm not quite sure I like being "one of those guys" on the road blinding people. Are the Lux also really bright at night?

You won't have that problem with LUX. With the HIDs I'm not sure, although I have heard they can be really bright.

I had the Alpines on my 135i, and even though I knew I would need a solution for the 1///M, I ended up selling them because I was displeased with their (unreliable) operation. They would frequently not light up (either one or sometimes both side), had to often restart car several times until I got them to work, but it would intermittently happen while driving. The issue is two-fold, upon startup the spike in current does the lights no favor, so hence why often one (or sometimes both) would not fire up. Spoke to Alex on several occasions, in his defense he was always responsive and blamed it on 'not up to par' quality of the copper from his Chinese supplier. But at the end of the day it is his product, if your subcontractor is not delivering, neither are you.
I followed the suggestion of cutting the ground wire and re-grounding it one of the bolts in the engine compartment, that faired no better. At the end of the day I couldn't live with starting up the car and having to watch the reflection of my front against another car to confirm both halos are powered. Last but not least, the intensity of these lights is really really bright (not in the best of ways). The inner rings especially (not an Alpine flaw per se but rather the design of the stock lights). The inner halos were soooo bright, I would often get opposing traffic high beaming me thinking I forgot my high beams on... Soooo, I sold them and off to Lux I will go.
