Would it be helpful to measure the pads and post them here? I have the stock msport (not msport option) pads in my garage that I can measure all sorts of different ways with a digital caliper if you have the mperformance pads to measure...

Thanks Mike - it would be interesting to see the size difference between the two, but Porterfield needs an actual pad to make a template.

I mailed them a m-perf pad earlier this week.

They did tell me a while back that faxing them a trace was acceptable. I guess that's the brute force approach.

Very cool, thanks for doing that! Can't wait to see what they come up with.

So as of right now, there is no option for brake pads on the M perf brakes aside from OEM?

Not that I know of, but I quit looking back in Aug. I'm guessing now that the 'm-sport brakes' is now a standard option there will be more offerings. However, at the time I installed there was only the retrofit.

Quote from an earlier post...

Is it the best option? I think it may be the only option for M-performance. Most especially the rears. This is the only vendor I've see that makes the pads for the 2pot rears. I've seen a low dust solution (can't remember the brand), but I think that's mainly for low temp/OE applications. I saw a set of custom carbotech's a member had made (might be in the FS forum), but I'm not sure the details there.

As of right now, Porterfield has pads for the rear (thanks to Ronin sending one of his OEM M Perf rear pads for them to use as a template).

As of a few days from now, Porterfield will have pads for the front as well (thanks again to Ronin for sending one of his OEM M Perf front pads for them to use as a template).

Ronin - when you installed the R4-s (I just got mine) there's a shim on the back of the OE pads that I couldn't get off - seems glued on

Did you manage to get it off and transfer it to the R4s pads, or did you just leave them off. If you didn't did you put any redstuff on the back of the pads to limit squeal or just throw them in?

Threw them in as-is. I didn't have any antisqueal handy, but if I did I would have put it on for safe measure, though I haven't had any squealing. YMMV

Let us know how they work for you.

Byw, did you get rears too?

Oh man I'm super jealous. I'm doing 2 days at sebring next weekend, but CODA makes Sebring look ghetto. I love tracks with elevation and unfortunately FL is flat as all get out.

I hope they hold up for ya. COTA looks pretty intense. What tires are you gonna run?

Lol. I will say I think the retaining setup is...less than ideal. On my old 944 brembos the retainer was swivel style. All you had to do was pinch two risers in the middle and it would disengage. You could change pads in literally 10 seconds if you wanted. Race derived so to speak. MP not so much.

I think the stoptech's single pins are good too.

Happy bedding!

How are the Porterfield R4S's in regards to brake dust? Got confirmation from them today that if I send them tracings of the 435Xi M-Sport pads, they would be able to either match up to the 3 series or make a new mold. Plan on pulling a front and rear pad on Sunday and faxing them a tracing with dimensions.

Not bad at all. Nothing compared to the black tar that comes off the bmw pads. They still dust, but it doesn't cake on. The dust is more a tan color.

So these are definitely for MPerformance? The PN didn't change and their site says MSport.

Hey Mike,

Spoke to Wendy at Porterfield and she confirmed the part numbers provided by DVC for the R4S. The fronts are the same as M sport since they are the same calipers as the M performance system. Total of 4 pads for the front at $189 and 2 rears with new part number at ~ $112.
