What would you do?
Right chaps, here’s the dilemma:
I put down a deposit on an X7 M50d here in Thailand. They have 3 black sapphire metallic ones coming in in the next few days. I was promised that they would be MY19, but having checked the VIN they actually left the Spartanburg plant on 5th Dec. After shipping etc they officially arrived on the sunny shores of Thailand in mid Feb. After customs clearance and all sorts of other stuff, they are now here. According to the SA, they will be registered as Production year 19 in Thailand so should not affect future resale value. I’m not so sure. No lease etc options here - just pay some in cash and finance the rest. Anyway, the 2 choices are as follows: 1- Go with the car that just arrived and have it on my driveway within 10 days - but with a manufacture date of December 2018 2 - Place a fresh order and wait 6 months to get MY19. With this option I could change the colour (interior or exterior) but all other options remain the same - BMW Thailand don’t allow other option choices on imported vehicles. Standard Spec sheet is attached for anyone who’s interested. Actually apparently you cant upload a PDF - or at least I have no clue how to do it properly. Maybe the link will work... https://www.bmw.co.th/content/dam/bm...X7-M50d_EN.pdf Last edited by khai Dow; 05-15-2019 at 10:31 AM.. |

The X7 is a 2019 debut vehicle. There are no 2018’s. It doesn’t matter that yours was constructed in December ‘18. What matters is that you took delivery in May ‘19.

It's very common for the model year and the actual year purchased to be staggered. For example, people were taking delivery of their 2019 X5s Nov/Dec of 2018. The new model year of most manufactures hovers right around the summer time. The 2020 X5/X7 will probably hit the show rooms August/September of this year.

I'd buy it! Like others have said the MY and build date may not match. I took delivery of my 2016 750 in December 2015. My wife got her 2018 540 in September 2017. The X7 is a MY 2019. Our department of motor vehicles lists the model year (as determined by the manufacturer) and not the production/build year.
Like Mrsduvy said, I'd be more concerned about ordering an X7 now, waiting 6 months (November delivery), when MY 2020 starts production in August. |
