Hmmm, another thought - adblocker?
I use an adblocker, but even so, some get through.

It's not a big deal, honestly. But a simple on/off switch in iPhone Safari for "don't allow website media to overtake CarPlay" would solve the problem.

There are none. And the solution would come from Apple, not BMW, so it's best to go to those forums to see if there is an iPhone-based setting that we're not aware of. This isn't a BMW "problem". It's a conscious decision by Apple in their design of CarPlay.

Their view is that the driver's phone is connected to CarPlay and anything that the driver has brought to the foreground in the iPhone is what audio should play in the car. If it's a Navigation app it plays Nav audio, if it's a Music app it plays Music, if it's a Video app it plays Video audio. So if you lend your iPhone to a passenger, disconnect CarPlay. That's the solution.
