I always use auto hold and when parking, I never put the vehicle in PARK. I just open the door. If the vehicle shuts off automatically, I just step out. If the vehicle remains on, I press the start/stop button to turn it off and then I step out.
Sometimes when I open the door, the car shuts off automatically. Sometimes doesn’t. This is a feature that I would like to have constantly, but I have not discovered what’s the pattern for it to keep happening. Does anyone know?. |

The setting to turn off the vehicle is only intended to switch off those systems still on in standby (or some people consider accessory) mode. It will not turn off the car when in run mode (engine running). What you’re experiencing when it shuts down when opening the door the vehicle is stopped and the auto start stop has turned off the engine and is waiting in Ready mode for you to press the accelerator pedal to resume driving but for safety reasons will shut the car off when the driver’s door is opened. The car will always do this under these circumstances regardless of your setting to turn the car off when opening the door. To your want to be able to shut down the car completely all the time even with the engine running by just opening the door, unfortunately, there is no way to do that. You will always need to press the start/stop button to turn off the engine if it’s running.

If the engine gets into idle (to support the needs of your car i.e keep acc running or you are in sport etc) it won't turn off when you open the door. I don't think there is a way around it outside of turning it off using the start stop button.
