Blinker and Cruise Control Confusion??
Just thought I would ask if anyone else keeps hitting the cruise control stalk instead of the blinker stalk? I don't do it every time, but it does happen regularly. On my 3 E46s I had, the cruise control was on the steering wheel. Wonder why BMW changed that, it was so easy to use and see? Oh well, obviously not a huge deal, but wanted to see if I am the only Spaz here?

I do something similar but more embarrasing. Every now and then I will mistake the indicator stalk for the cruise control stalk. When I do this and try to up my speed by 5mph (by pulling back on the stalk) I then proceed to flash the guy in front of me with my headlights. They then wonder what they are doing wrong and I have no way of telling them that it was a mistake.

I have not ever confused the two stalks. The one is at the 3 o'clock position and sticks way out. The other (cruise) is way down, behind the steering wheel.
I usually activate my blinkers with my fingers, keeping my palm and thumb on the wheel - where as I need to take my hand off the wheel to use the cruise. Perfect placement IMO (and it's the same as Audi and Merc) |

I've also signaled a left lane change when trying to cancel the CC too. I haven't done either in a long time, but I think it's a common mistake as you get accustomed to the controls. The good thing is that BMW made it so that up and down on the CC stalk cancels it. My previous Mercedes was even worse - the CC stalk was above the turn signal stalk and tapping it up or down would SET it. I actually set the cruise a couple of times by accident (dangerous).

It does happen time to time, usually when I'm in a hurry. Used to happen more often when I just recieved the car. Those levers are pretty close aren't they, but again where could we put them?

I didn't vote because there wasn't an option for "only in the begining". It only took me a few days to get used to it!

wasn't there a joke about turn signals on one of these discussion threads? something about a new discovery etc..?
Anyway, while 71% say they never confuse the two stalks... clearly 71% of people are lying their socks off.

I also drive E46 and sometimes I drive the E90, switching back and forth between those 2 cars, confuse me all the time . For example, E46 window control in the middle console, while E90 is on the driver side door handle. Cruise control is the other confusing thing, when I am switching between these 2 cars. |

I used to confuse them during the first couple months of ownership, but I'm used to it now. I think the cc placement is great now because your hand doesn't need to leave the 10 o'clock position to speed up and down while cruise is activated. The cancel function is also cool.

I found it interesting that it activates the brake lights if you slow down with CC....an interesting feature that should have been there from the start.
