Shadow and Roast I see both of you on here so I want to revive this quickly, sorry if there’s a better thread. My felt tray was compromised and ripped off at VIR last weekend. So now I’m looking at either grabbing a “new” oem one, getting one of the aluminum options, or looking at a splitter that might have one as sort of built in. For a DD that sees track duty, any suggestions on which to go with?

Can't beat the lightness of the oem felt, and it's a well designed aero piece.

Good idea, just out of curiosity aren't you running a metal one?

The OEM felt may get made fun of, but it's super light, provides a real aero effect and deforms without breaking when you hit something. When the alu options first came out I was really excited and bought two. A few years later I moved one of my cars back to oem felt from FCP and I'd like to move the other back as well. |

there is a slight weight penalty, if you're worried about that sort of thing. i'm also not sure where the weak point is- the oem felt just rips if you hit a parking bump or are constantly scraping on driveways. the turner tray has some threaded mounts instead of those flexible wire mounts. i'm not sure what it would take to sheer the bolts or bend the mounts, but someone talented enough could get it done.

Exactly why I wouldn't go this route or any of the metal solutions for that matter. There is no info as to how this will absorb hitting a parking bump, road debris, etc etc. May very well end up causing more damage than the cost of replacing the oem felt. This one seems more likely to cause more damage as its tied into the frame rails. Tweaked frame rails from this hitting something?? No thanks.

The turner plate is beefcake.. weighs about 13lbs IIRC I've hit plenty of stuff with mine.. shows a few bashes, It cannot be ripped off as it tucks under the front bumper and mounts directly to the subframe via a couple of hangers. If it were to be ripped off the damage from the skid plate would likely be the least of your worries as your car is likely totaled. As for hitting bumps and nose diving sharp driveways the suspension just travels down and you plough that bish.. it could be lighter for sure but it's low weight and probably handles better with the lower center of gravity 😂 but I'm no physicist..

I picked up the Mporium undertray about 2 weeks ago and considering it's 200 dollars more compared to the OEM felt one I felt it was a solid choice.

Has anyone had problems getting one of the Turner trays? I ordered one a week or so back and they just moved out the ship date another 10 days. I'm starting to wonder if I will see it this year.

I wish driveways were all I had to deal with. We have 3" deep potholes everywhere here in Boston + salt and slush in the winters. Cali is so much easier on cars.

So what are the current options here?
1) replace "felt parts" from FCP, original but not exciting, frankly annoying to work with. 2) Turner motorsports : looks nice but seemingly unavailable, I cancelled my order after the ship date got moved back 3 times. 3) mporium , also looks nicely made, currently showing as backordered, does anyone have an idea whatthat means in terms of likely delivery? 4) others???? I seem to remember some other offerings floating around on the forum |

Our Mporium Trays are in stock. They ship in 1-2 days. They are the original single plate solution from the USA though others have popped up lately on social media with copies.

I don't know if anyone else has had this experience with the new felt parts, but the sheet-metal clip-on nuts that come with the new parts didn't seem to want to accept the fasteners.
I had to peel off the old clip-ons and reuse them. That's the only downside I experienced with the new parts, and will happily replace them again on FCPs dime, when the time comes again.

Mine is somewhat collapsing on one side, not too bad. So buy the OEM or aftermarket one?
I held back on buying the one from SoCal (seemed good quality and some members have it on), the guy who is selling the alternative to turner and Mporium.

I did the Turner tray when my car was in for rod bearing/motor mount replacement. For me it's been well worth the money. New York roads eat felt for breakfast.

After blowing through a few sets of felts I got the turner and haven't looked back.
The cost of replacing the felts adds up if you blow them out more than once. You buy the turner and don't have to worry about it again. Yes there is a slight weight penalty but the convenience and security is undeniable. Even Malek at MRF begrudged the felts when he installed my turner plate and commented it may be worth the weight penalty even for a track car.

Regarding the "aero" and sacrificial aspects of the OEM pieces, has anyone thought to put some ABS (or "felt") extensions to the flat plates? The plates apparently increase the ground clearance but the pushback seems to be that they are removing a "security blanket" of a replaceable piece that apparently also ducts air somehow, it wouldn't seem too hard to have some peices of something cheap to replace even just 3M'd on to the bottom of the flat plates giving the functionality of the OEM without the 3 piece flexy mess.
Of course that adds even more weight ...... |
