Question about Captain Chairs

Hi All,

I am in the process of finalizing my order.

I have a couple questions about the captain chairs that I wanted confirmation after seeing my reviews of the X7 online.

1. Do the captain chairs not fold flat when it is in the cargo mode? ( in the video's I see them just move forward)

2. I have 3 Golden Retrievers and I wanted to know is there a partition of any sort that keeps the dog from entering the second row when it is equipped with the captain chairs and the third row is laid completely flat.

Thanks All.

They don't lay flat and not partition. The amount of space between the two chairs is not much, so they would have to jump up to get to the second row.

THank you. Probably going bench for my purposes.

Hate my captains chairs. Nice but not very practical
I’ll go bench when I trade in and upgrade one day.

I agree. If your primary use of the X7 is hauling around passengers only then the Captain's Chairs make sense. I ordered the bench seats because it's only my wife and I with occasional passengers. We will use the vehicle on road trips so space is more important than passenger comfort.

The bench seats also offer a few more inches of leg room as well. And while the bench seats don't provide the same level of "individual" seating like the Captains Chairs do, both sides still recline individually - and more than you might think. Also, when you put down the center armrest of the bench, the difference in comfort for two people sitting on the bench may not be as different as you might think when compared to the Captains Chairs (and the center armrest has two cup holders, too).

I agree with this sentiment. The chairs were very comfortable but I like the center armrest setup much better. The cupholders on the floor from the captain chairs could of been thought out and finished much nicer.

I agree that the 2nd row cupholder set-up could have been much better designed. That said, I really liked the upscale look of the captain's chairs. Course I'm retired and the kids are grown. I just wanted a luxurious and sporty ride (40i M sport on the way!) to travel with in retirement. The third row will hardly be used as my golf clubs will be coming along on most trips.

Can't argue with you there! The third will haul around all my golf gear! h

For me , other than 1 less passenger capacity I love my Captains Chairs. To me it makes the cabin so much more luxurious and differentiates it from the usual "standard" SUV. With Bench seat it is pretty much identical to the x5 interior just bigger.

I'm glad to see people chiming in on the fact that they love their CCs. I was starting to second guess my choice to upgrade to the CCs instead of the bench this morning... but then my wife said she prefers the CCs. so decision kept as is.

I was disappointed that the cargo space doesn't allow golf clubs to be horizontal but if you remove the first aid kit holder panel on the right it will. Too bad it leaves an ugly hole in the cargo area. How are you guys hauling your clubs?

Well, it is all about what YOU want as it is YOUR car (er, your wife's car). All these opinions do is help you make an informed decision. I think you will be happy either way

If I didn't need a natural partition of sorts from the trunk to the second row for my dogs, I would of ordered the captain chairs.

I didn't see anyone answer your second question, but there is a cargo net that comes standard which goes up as a wall of sorts behind the captains chairs for use when the third row is down. It's only a half height net, so the effectiveness would depend on your dogs, but much more than that and you're probably looking for a solid full height aftermarket solution anyway.

As for your first question, I was greatly annoyed that the second row didn't fold fat as I've been known to carry lumber, sheets of plywood, etc. in my previous X5 and X6, but decided for the couple times of year this occurs, I might as well do a 1 hour rental of a truck at one of the big box stores and not worry about damaging my interior.
