Agreed the GLS looks like an afterthought. "Oppps we forget something....hmmmm... oh yes the tow hitch!"

In the BMW they integrated it better. A cover or hidden could be the next step but I don't feel they did a bad job at all. With the shadowline it's even less noticeable.
I feel so in luxury package
Take it to Msport it looks a lot worse 😞

I'm going either invisihitch or EU DIY. Let's see if I can get the software for it.

Not sure how hands on you are with projects like this, but be prepared for more work than expected if you want the hitch to function like the OEM setup. Unlike the hitch on previous SUVs, the hitch on the X7 is heavily integrated with the electronics, suspension and the safety features of the X7 - so coding will be required (and I suspect it won't be trivial coding like folding mirrors with the key fob or something simple). Also, according to BMW, a non-factory installed hitch has a lower tow rating as well.

Anything can be retrofitted with enough time and money. But as much as I like DIY projects, for a non-factory installed hitch on the X7, I would go with an OEM retrofit from the dealer (which would include the proper coding).

My dealer won't do the EU version retrofitting but was nice enough to offer the coding / towing package software.

So physical parts installation I'll do then head over for a software upgrade and adding the towing packages.
I'll probably install the rear fogs as well, since the bumper is going off

Will the x7 fit on the quickjack?

No, not the model I have. I have the BL-5000SLX, rated to 5000 lbs. The X7 comes in at ~5600 lbs, so if you wanted to use it with a Quickjack, you would need the BL-6000 or BL-7000 model.

To be honest on this setup I don't check anymore. That trailer has active trailer control (ATC) which is an amazing piece of kit. I towed the trailer all around Europe behind a Q7 and with ATC and the stabilising hitch it gave no bother at all and can safely do 80mph if you wanted, no matter which way you loaded it. I do have a tongue gauge and if I was towing a single axle without ATC I would be aiming for tongue heavy. Especially now with the X7 having m sport brakes and 10.5" tyres on the rear I think that would be the way to go.

Fair enough. When I was towing with my Ford Expedition EL (my SUV before the X7) I did not pay too much attention to tongue weight as I knew I was well within all towing limits of the Expedition. However, with the lower towing capacity of the X7, and very conservative tongue weight limit of 600 lbs, I decided to look into it a bit deeper. My trailer also uses a weight distribution hitch system with anti-sway.

I found and bought this piece of trailer tech, the BetterWeigh by Curt, that intrigued the gadget guy in me. I plan to use it to measure my tongue weight (which I can adjust by the placement of my car on the trailer) and possibly even adjust my weight distribution system if needed. It has some other trailer/tow vehicle weight features as well so I am confident I will get my money's worth out of it.

wow that is quite gadget. Is it accurate? I would certainly invest in one of those and then definitely fine tune the nose weight every trip.

How did you find the 40i for towing? I was a little disappointed in the lack of torque in the low range. Although I did expect that coming from a diesel. I have been googling tuning chips all day. What do you think?

I have not used the BetterWeigh yet as my X7 is at the dealer getting an issue addressed. All I know about it so far is that the X7 is most likely not in the towing database as I tried to do a test on the loaner G05 X5 I have and came up short. No big deal as it has a manual calibration procedure for this situation.

As far as towing my full rig with my X7, I have not done it yet. After an initial fit test (what you see in my sig pic), I decided to order the BetterWeigh device and get some maintenance done to my trailer that I did not feel like DIY'ing. I should have both my trailer and X7 back this week and plan to do my first full scale road test, with weight data from the BetterWeigh.

As far as the torque of the 40i, I am not expecting the towing power of a diesel, because I never had one. The HP/TQ of the X7 is better than my previous Expedition (with a V8) so I am expecting towing performance on par or better than that with my previous Expedition - which is fine with me for how much I tow. I am not against possibly upgrading the HP/TQ of the X7 in the future (if I did I would go for an ECU tuning application like BM3, and not a piggyback like RaceChip - but that is a different conversation ). But for now, I want to keep the engine stock and see how things go as for daily driving, which is the overwhelming majority of the time the X7 will be used, as the 40i is more than adequate (and fun) for my needs.

My Ametrin is on order and I can't wait to get it! Glad you mention the color change. When I first saw it online it appeared more burgundy than plum, but when I saw one at a local dealership recently it was definitely plum. Granted it was a cloudy day and dirty, but still. The interior trim around the door where it was clean was beautiful, so I'm hoping that's what it looks like in the sun and clean! How do you feel about the color now that you have it?
