Just got an update that among many updates, including the 3rd row AC functionality, there has been some additions / improvements to the driving assistance modes and profiles "whatever that means"

I was told to ask the dealer for SIB640220 specifically if the update didn't do the trick. And it should resolve the issue. Provided that you have the 5 zone option.

Furthermore within 1 weeks or so"beginning of July" the 03.2020.58 will rollout on the OTA updates.

Lastly the OTA updates are always one version behind.

To piggyback on the above post...

So after I picked up my X7 today from the dealer, I had a nice chat with the shop foreman - really cool guy. Among the many BMW related things we discussed, he told me that BMW recently sent out a bulletin to the dealers regarding the 3rd row A/C issue. The gist is, if a customer complains about not having 3rd row A/C with the rear seats folded, the dealer is to update the software to get it functional. This means if OTA is not working for you, you will get 3/2020.58 from the dealer - which is current as of this post.

There's another thread about this somewhere.

Your comparison is based to what older version? Just to make it clear for everyone to chime in.
This was the previous version number in my car: 11/2019.40.
My car was on 11/2019.40 going into service today. They upgraded the software and said HVAC is working in 3rd row now when seats are down. I'll confirm and post software version when I get it back tomorrow.

Given many 3 row SUV's in the $30k-$50k range have 3rd row vents as standard equipment (although not it's own controllable zone), It's sad to see BMW (and MB) make this an option rather than making it standard.
No, but my point still stands. As you stated, many, if not most, other SUVs have 3rd row vents standard which has been my experience. I have no problem with BMW creating an option for separate 3rd row climate control. However, not providing any ducting for the 3rd row is ridiculous. Especially at this price point.

Heated steering wheel is finally added with this update. I did not have it with the previous version. That being said dealer got my third row HVAC to work. I am very happy now.

Where are you located. I just tried a few hours ago in Washington State and it's still showing the 2019 version as being the latest.

What do you didn't have the heated steering wheel? I thought it's standard on all X7?

Haven't tried mine yet 🤦🏻*♂️

It depends on several factors. Most importantly what version of iStep you're currently on. Historically, BMW usually only releases the most stable version of the previous version that's currently available.

So, for example, we're on 03/2020.xx currently. For OTA updates the most current software version you would receive currently is 11/2019.xx. Once the next major update is released next month (07/2020.xx) OTA recipients would receive 03/2020.xx. So, if you're already on 11/2019.xx you wont receive an OTA update until next month or possibly later.

Fair enough. I didn't look.
Thanks for the explanation! Looks like I'm headed to the dealership for the latest and greatest. Need control over the 5th zone with the seats stowed.

So I just got the 11.2019.70 last night OTA while I was changing the Themes from Alpina to M via bimmer code.

I'm guessing 1) the restart of ÉCU several times helped somehow.
2) maybe the Alpina theme is not stable or not suitable for my car.

Either way it was pushed last night.

And on a side note. I closed the garage door on the rear bumper

Damn! So sorry to hear and see that damage. I already cussed up a wind storm for you.

It looks like there aren't any dents so maybe you can buff it out. You might want to give this a try for starters. It certainly won't hurt the clear coat. I've had success with it without having to use a buffer.

I genuinely appreciate it the notion
But it's definitely a refinishing job for the bumper. Those two little spots are actually shaves from the paint 😥

My remote start (via remote control fob) stopped working after the upgrade.
Anyone else has experienced that?

Apparently BMW got hammered by pet owners whose pets couldn't ride in the vehicle in the 3rd row because of no air.

This was the dumbest design I've ever seen. If you don't order the 5 zone climate control in the X7 then you get no HVAC in the 3rd row with no overhead vents for the 3rd row. That's just plain ASININE!!! If an automaker is going to put in 3 rows of seating they damn well better put HVAC in all 3 rows. But NOOOO....! Not BMW.
An interesting observation (and not that I am making excuses for BMW on this one), but apparently the design of the HVAC system in the X7 "requires" the 5-zone climate control option to get any cold air to the 3rd row. The 5-zone climate control option actually adds a separate and complete A/C unit/system just for the 3rd row (separate refrigerant, fans, compressor, etc). I did some poking around in the rear of my X7 and found the separate A/C system. Based on the online technical documents for the HVAC system in the X7, there is no HVAC duct work from the front system to feed the 3rd row any air (at least cold air, could not tell about duct work for heat).

That is no excuse of course to not have the rear A/C activated with the 3rd row down if you do have the 5-zone climate option. My previous Expedition, with rear A/C (that was also a self contained unit design separate from the front A/C) would work with the 3rd row down.

I still think it is a poor design and BMW did make this clear. I bought my X7 when it 1st came out and in there documentation they never made it clear that there were no ducts in the third row if you did not get the cold weather package. I was under the assumption that if you did not get the 5 zone unit that the third row would default to the second row thermostat. Every other true 3 row vehicle that I know of with the exception of mb GLS has ducts in the third row. The only thing that makes it decent back there is the fact that I got captain chairs so we get some air back there.

Yes. You have to go back into climate settings and re-enable engine on with preconditioning.

Basically go to the dealer and beg, cry or yell or possibly all 3 in that order.
