7/2020 software update

I am due for an oil change in the near future
Does anyone know when the July update will be out, and what it will include?

I dont know if this is the regular July update, or something else. They did write this in the document "And for compatible BMW vehicles built before July, already in customers’ hands, these great new updates can be added with a free over-the-air software upgrade, which will be available from third quarter onwards."

The real question is, do the dealers have this update yet?

My car is at the dealer getting some paint issues resolved. I asked them about the July update, they said they do not have it yet. The most recent they have is 03/2020.58 which they will install in my car once it comes back from the body shop.

I think the update is not available yet but it will be in days or weeks. That article vmgenerally tells you what will be in it but nobody knows what will be available for which car

Took my X7 in for the 10,000 service. I asked for them to update my software so I can have the latest version. The dealer told me that they only update the software if there is a problem that they can report to BMW?

WTH?

I choose the BMW solely for the tech. The first thing I do when I get in is push the eco button (wish I could just get it to stay that way).

I wanted to have the software upgraded while it was at the dealer and they say I need a reason. I showed them this blog about the red light camera now being available. They said that is a good enough reason to ask BMW if I can have an update.

Maybe I should have said pretty please?

What version are you on? I had to go to the service manager to get mine updated but my car was stuck on 07.2019. My service advisor said they wouldn’t do it either and it was all OTA. Talk to the service manager if you are on an older version than 03.20.58.

My SA said next time just to say CarPlay is disconnected or the screen keeps resetting and they can update. :-)

This is what I received. I'll get the car back later.

Your SA is feeding you a line of BS and is showing his/her severe lack of knowledge about how BMW updates work, especially with the new G-series vehicles. Unfortunately, your experience with this SA is not uncommon. Armed with reliable internet knowledge, you should be able to talk to the service manager to get the software update. Complaining about a fault or issue can also result in the dealer giving you an update (for example, if you complain about not having 3rd row A/C with the seats folded down, you can get an update as there is a service bulletin out on it). However, getting the latest software update, in parallel with included maintenance, should not be a problem based on how software updates are marketed for the newer G-series BMWs - since OTA is not always reliable or timely. In situations like this it usually comes down to the relationship you have with your SA and/or the service manager.

All that said, the 7/2020 update may not be at dealers yet and probably not for several weeks. You should be able to get the 3/2020.58 though, as many, including myself, have been able to get.
