It's hard to compare an 8-10 year old car (built on a chassis from the mid 90s mind anyone) to a brand new model. One is the epitome of turbo charged cars and the other is a very good performance car for the money.
That said, an M3/4 will have a hard time keeping up with a 997.1 turbo and wont even come close to a 997.2 turbo PDK even with a tune on or off the track. |

Either you get it or you don't, I bought an f80 bc of my wife, but if it's for me 997tt or gts for a daily and I'd deal with all of the short falls of driving an old car. But if budget is of concern, then it makes no sense to stray from an m3 with warranty and free maintenance.

This was my debate, and I went with an R8.
The R8 was great, but now I look forward to a freight (train). Seriously. I love my R8 but I can't wait to be back in an M3 and get some extra power from those turbos.
