How often do you use launch control?
How often does everyone here use launch control? I’ve only used it on the rare occasion to show off to friends & family the stupid acceleration of this 5000lb+ SUV. There’s no doubt that extra boost is present or somehow the electric motor is helping when using launch control vs just pedal-to-the-floor. It’s *significantly* faster than gunning it. It actually gives me nausea.
I wonder, outside of tires, how rough this is on the drivetrain and if BMW has a maximum number of launches allowed. |

The difference you’re feeling has to do with the turbos being spooled up to the point they are on boost, vs just flooring it from low rpm at which point there’s a noticeable lag as you wait for said turbos to spool.

I've owned my X7 for about 15 months and have probably launched it 8-10 times. There's only so many streets and situations you can actually do it. But when I find myself in one of those spots, I can't resist.

Really surprised me in both the 40i and M60i how aggressive the launch feels. |

For those curious and wondering how to initiate LC…the instructions are in the owners manual…and since there’s a digital owners manual embedded in iDrive…you can simply pull up the instructions to see how (or if you have Launch Control) to initiate it.
If you don’t have the options for launch control…the instructions will probably not appear in the iDrive version of the owners manual since it is VIN specific and not written universally to cover everything like the paperback version. Here’s an example from my 2014 X5 with NBT/ID4 version of iDrive using the keyword search to get the instructions. Also take note that it says LC causes premature wear of components due to the heavy load for the vehicle…so some may want to consider how many times they initiate LC:

If you haven’t used it, I highly recommend doing it at least once (on a safe road). It will change your perception of how quick these beasts are.
I do worry about wear and tear, so do it sparingly. |

Just picked up the wifey a 24' X7 M60 and waiting for the break in period to be over to unlock the full power. Launch control will then be initiated lol. First thing I have noticed though is my 22 m850 felt much more responsive and quicker. Wonder if that's because the car is still locked at 5500 rpm?!?

I could not get launch control to work even after driving over 6 miles, do you have to drive the whole time in Sport to prevent the engine from shutting off while at red lights?

I use it almost all the time, even at red lights The fastest that I’ve got was 4.14 seconds. I was the only person in the car.

I would use it more if BMW made it simpler to use. My old car was push launch control button, brake with left foot, gas with right foot, release brake. Must have done it over well 100 times.

It’s very easy with this too. Traction off, and sport plus, and smash the brake and accelerator!

You forgot engine must be at operating temperature/driven at least 6 miles….steering wheel must be under 30 degrees….shift lever to sequential mode….thats three more steps than what you listed!!
