The question is are those fully spec or light weight with no options.

Again, not saying the bmw isn't fat..

5314 is what an optioned Urus weights as per Car and Driver

https://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/a25586965/2019-lamborghini-urus-road-trip-iceland/

I think they all will get fat with the next gen as everyone will jump on the hybrid bandwagon to meet emissions standards.
They will def get fatter that I agree with.

I don't even mind the XM I just wonder again base model 160k and powerful version 185k before options.

Hope BMW can pull it off seems steep

LMFAO, nice commercials...who exactly are they marketing this to? Hipsters?

$160k? Um, yeah....hard pass....I will take a G wagon or Range for that money.

No ones get an SUV to be the fastest.....

The gold trim is just plain awe full

The front design looks okay but looks too plain and not aggressive enough for a full m model.

The wheels are ugly

Quite surprised at the lack of ambient lighting in the interior

Overall if there was a blacked out version and better rims, i think it will looks decent

I have a feeling the base motor may not be faster than the X5/6M but I bet they put the secret sauce in the chassis and it probably will have crazy steering feel for an suv.

That upper-end market is too competitive to charge 200k and it's not running with an Urus or 707
I suspect it will be the best handling SUV ever. But do performance SUV buyers want that? And if you personally want that, how much depreciation will you be eating when you sell it?

$159k starting price is steep.
Nope, would buy a Cayenne Turbo GT or Urus over this any day (none are in my price bracket, about $40k+ too rich for my top end).

You could add the G-Wagon in there, I'd wager that BMW had their eyes on that market.

The XM may still be in development, but it already has potentially the best steering of any BMW in over a decade and that's because it so clearly mimics older BMWs.

It's not rapid and twitchy, like an M3. Hell, compared to the X6M I drove back from this test, it feels relaxed and vaguely analog in its responsiveness (aside from the lack of slop). Beautifully weighted on center, the effort required increases from modest to properly weighty as the steering angle climbs, but it's the natural sensation that wowed not just me, but most of the American media in attendance."
I'd wait for full driving reviews to be released when the reviewers have it for more than a few hours on their own grounds. It was a similar story with the 8-Series prototype drives, first reviews claimed great and chatty steering feel, then many reviews once the car was in production stated dead steering feel.

That being said I do hope the first drive is right and those opinions extend to other BMW models in the future.

I'm completely ok with this one. It looks pretty stout and futuristic, grilles aren't stupid, and a luxurious presence indicating the peak of the BMW suv lineup. X5M for example still has a utilitarian vibe whereas this is a show.

Gold trim is likely just limited launch edition silliness (a la M8 GC) and the cars you might compare it to like the G63 and Cayenne Turbo gt are long in the tooth or just visually similar to their lower trim counterparts. For the few folks who will spend 200k on an suv this will sell itself.

So it's a X5 50i with hybrid and M50i with hybrid (red label) in a different shell?

Looks like a whale from the future. I would personally have to see it in the flesh to actually determine if this thing is hideous. Love how the G80/G82 look now. Saw the new IX last week on the highway and it was pretty sharp looking!

Bmw Why lol 😂
Well phrased. XM seems to be a technology demonstrator of sorts without a clear appeal to a specific customer segment. Will some buy XM? Yes of course. Will the automotive history remember it in the same manner as X5M or even non-M X7? Unlikely.

So new m5 will have label red as well?
New marketing gimmick instead of competition models?!!!

This was the car that Markus Flasch presented to the board a couple of years back, when he was asked to present the future of M.

But the board questioned that this vehicle was what the market would ask for, since SUVs obvious sell like hot cakes. They instructed to further develop the big SUV in the background, which only served as an empty decorative body shell, as the future ultimate M car. Markus resigned (or got fired) and this is what we get now as the ultimate M of all times. A 6000lbs behemoth with 23inch wheels.

And how is this in any way possible translating the virtues of the "M" pedigree?

Interesting they chose to give the XM great steering feel. Will anyone who buys this actually care?

23 inch wheels are standard with 22's optional. Never seen a -1 option on a BMW before.

The hybrid V-8 will likely result in good real-world straight line performance, but damn this thing is heavy.

BMW's current design language attracts buyers so hard to bet against them, but the XM's angular in your face styling doesn't work for me. The gold trim is tacky. Except for the grill, the styling seems to have more in common with a RAV4 than a BMW.

If they actually increased the rear legroom to LWB 7-Series dimensions I'd be genuinely interested.

Current X7 platform is woefully tight in the second row if you have tall folks in the front seats. I like the idea of no 3rd row and a more luxurious space for rear occupants and actual usable cargo space.
