Other than the weird roof... Just dump the interior parts bins from the X7 and the M8... shake it up.... and here is what you get.

How the 7 series interior tech wasn't included in on this (at this insane price point) is just bewildering to me.

BMW fans, and M fans even more so, are a lot like Star Wars fans. We hate all the new stuff!

But making big fat stupid cars fast is cool. It’s not like you have to buy it if you don’t like it. Hahah. So why all the hate? (I have my coffee, so I’m positive).

Yeah seriously, I honestly think it's hilarious a car like this even exists.

People are entitled to their opinions but it's always funny when you see people almost personally offended that this car is available for someone to buy.

My lease is up in 2 years so realistically I’ll be switching up in about 18 mos (goes by fast) I’ll simply try for the X5M; it’ll be market dependent. If the market is tough I suspect they’ll bring back the incentives of a few years back before Covid; if not then our current M models will still yield equity like last time; I got back $12k to forward to my current ‘22 X3M Comp. I’m not even sure what other brands come close to what I’ve deemed the most performace/quality/value for your money than BMW…And also now I’m just thinking; when did leasing a car start to come close to buying a house? Lol 😂
It’s a crazy world.

This is BMWs answer to the Mercedes G-Wagon.
It is an aspirational vehicle, the whole point is to show excess. Like the G Wagon, the XM has polarized styling that is drastically different from just about everything on the road. Both vehicles are fast for their sizes but aren't the fastest SUV on the road, because for the target audience, all out speed isn't the point, you just want others to know that it's fast.
It looks like the XM is priced around the G550's cost of $140K but below the G63. I suppose that's what the Red Label trim is for.

Some halo vehicles are weird, this is one of those.

MB has been building the G Wagon since 1979, and was originally built for the German military (it is narrow so that it fit in military transport). I don't see how the XM is anything like the G Wagon, except maybe in price, there isn't any sort of heritage to it, it doesn't excel at much (G Wagon is an off road beast) it isn't super luxurious (Bentayga and Cullinan) and it isn't particularily fast to go against other super SUVs (Lambo and Ferrari).

What are you talking about? Its heritage goes back to the 1978 BMW M1. Duh.

The thing is G Wagon was never polarizing. It was well received at the time and in contrast, many voices wanted that specifically designed military vehicle to be made available to the public.
This XM should be send to the military and stay there.

I don’t think you get it. We are not offended that this car exist. I am not offended that Fiat Multipla or Aztek exists. I am offended that BMW made a car that made it to that list.

In the end, it contributes to the overall image of the brand.
Who am I kiddin’? I guess this is the new image…

Yeah that’s just as sad TBH but hey if you want something as basic as a brand identify who you are and feel as if you must love everything they build, have at it.

The rest of us will enjoy life and not get all riled up over a car we don’t ever have to even own or drive.

If you see someone in the wild driving one, let us know how it goes when you scream at them about how they’re “ruining the brand”.

Saw it in person at local dealership a few days ago next to X5M. It made the X5M (that I love) look so tame. I hate the rear end of this car but BMW making cars like this tells me that they’re willing to experiment and try new things. I also hate the looks of the i7 but there are tons other in Santa Monica/Bev Hills. People have money and want to stand out. Most of us who either don’t have that money or don’t care so much about standing out don’t get it. It’s fine - we can keep our amazing cars that “blend in”. It’s all about targeting all segments of the market - BMW knows what they’re doing, not sure why it offends so many people.

Personally, I love when shallow idiots with more money than sense self-identify.

Unfortunately every car manufacturer at this point has huge grills and people simply have to buy cars so there’s an illusion people like the big grills when in reality it’s possibly people just don’t have a way to protest the collective industry wide trend.
This. Wife's Macan S is fun as hell for a little grocery getter. Granted this is me judging from an X5MC as a daily, but I'm sure if I specced out the right Cayenne GTS (I have, the Porsche configurator is a great stress reliever to take your mind off of things) it would be a hell of a lot of fun.

[QUOTE=Bmwfanboy1;30010833]Not try to argue or looking for a fight. Those just my logic thinking at least to me on getting the XM. What do I know?

1. People used to make fun of the kidney grill like people make fun of the camera lens for the iPhone. Now with most cars have big grills and not everyone hated the kidney grill. Now nobody has a problem with the camera lens on iPhones.

I don't think you're looking for a fight, so certainly not taking it that way. :-). But I guess I'm not so into iPhones that I noticed people were complaining about the design. Although I'm at that (st)age in life where I only get a new phone after the screen is basically shaving my face from all the cracks. I think I'm still running a 12 Max Pro and won't be switching til that sumbitch gives

2. I spec it as what’s on the XM.
Gravit Gray: $1950 XM standard
Full Merino Leather: $3500 XM standard
Driver Assistance: $1700 XM standard
Executive Package: $3100 standard
M Compound Brake: $650 standard
On the XM by the way, 23 or 22 inch wheels. Same price. Gold trim or black trim. Same price. BMW doesn’t nickel and dime on the XM. And I like that.

Nobody besides say a Miami Hurricanes fan is going to spec this with the gold trim. Also, no sunroof is a dealbreaker in Florida unless its on a GT3 or some other track capable car. But you are correct, the packages are pretty reasonable compared to Porsche.

3. I have seen arguments about getting 2 cars for the same price. Why would anyone buy 2 half a** cars? Actually I like your selection very much. On this forum somewhere I have seen one saying that he rather get a 550i plus a 4Runner plus a Tesla model 3 for the same price. But why?

Agreed. If I went that way (which I probably never would just because it's a ridiculous act of conspicuous consumption), I'd definitely need something really nice and something I could put a ton of miles on as a daily.

4. I don’t need and never did try to race anyone on the street.

I do

I'm biased but I think the X5M is the best super SUV for your buck. Not a fan of the X7 as it is definitely super soccer mom-ish.

Plug in hybrids are dead on arrival. More complex than pure EV or pure ICE - with weight and complexity of both. Maserati have a sound approach - all ICE or EV in their next gen cars. These transitionary hybrid ICE/EVs will tank on resale.
