Battery capacity North America vs World

Hello,

I’m looking at the specs of the battery and it says 29.5 kWh capacity but 25.7 net

Now I’m looking at the Label red and it says 19.2 net

Are we still getting F*U** in NA vs rest of the world? I tought that debate was closed with for example the x5 LCI.

That is a good question, I wonder what the reasoning was for that.. The electric motor output across the two models is basically the same… The battery pack itself is the same gross kWh capacity. The net being much lower implies they want to keep the voltage higher, that’s why one would do that on lithium ion battery packs, not cycling as deep.. If so I wonder if the XM is getting an update at some point to do the same.

Basically, the x5 45e had these specs:

in Europe: 24.0 kWh battery (gross) and 21.6 kWh (usable/net)
in the U.S.: 24.0 kWh battery (gross) and 17.06 kWh (usable/net)

https://g05.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1777065

Now the x5 50e has these in Canada

Energy cap (gross / net) (kWh) 29.5 / 25.7

I just don’t want to have the feeling that BMW uses the same battery as the 50e but not giving the full potential that they now give in it

I imagine that BMW still restricts access to part of the battery to maintain warranty and battery longevity rules in the US.
