Hands on review of the XM - walk around and drive!

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
Hey yall!

I got a chance recently to do a full walk around and test drive of the new XM. What an interesting new model that is for sure, and is packed with technology, options and surprisingly quick!

If you get a chance to drive one, definitely go do it!

The self-fellating people who need to post how much they hate the xm in every thread featuring it, in the forum they don’t need to enter, are worse than any negative aspect of the xm

Big respect to Adam and crew at BMW of Seattle, and I love to see those local Seattle streets

That XM is not for me though...

I don't think the frustration is with the XM, so much as it is with the questionable application of the M brand.

The XM is an interesting value proposition. I think it's probably the nearest offering to the Urus. But for M sports car people it's a bit of a slap in the face. This isn't a problem for Porsche or Lamborghini since they already make specialized top-tier sports cars.

It's not self-fellating (that's actually kind of offensive), we just wish BMW perused a more purist sports car.

When is yours arriving?

Just to be clear…
This is BMW’s M brand not our M brand. If BMW decided to go different direction so be it. Go buy a Urus or Porsche if we don’t like what BMW has to offer.

This is not the last BMW stand-alone M car. If we don’t like this XM then wait for the next one. Why the hate??? If I don’t like iPhone 14 then I will wait for iPhone 15 or get a Samsung Galaxy. I am not going to go to iPhone forum and start pouring cold water on every thread.

So much hate on every XM threads. Every time a proud owner posted their XM photos here, all the negative comments followed. Most of the haters here had never seen a XM live let alone driven one because not many dealers out there will just let anyone test drive a XM. That’s why my local dealer parked their XM deep inside their showroom so that not just anyone can request a test drive.

Question..
Are we really smarter than BMW who has been making cars for more than 80 years? It just seems like in this forum at least everyone knows more than BMW.

Negative comments are welcome. LOL.

Yep. It gets tiring reading through the same stuff. I thought people would get this out of their system by now. BMW doesn't even pay attention to these enthusiast forums (not like I exepect them to because they're a big company and know what they're doing) so there's really no helping the situation to complain about it here repeatedly.

Unless people want to start a hashtag #restoretheMverse then go for it. But the 100th complaint about the XM is not going to make BMW suddenly scrap it.

You hate it, we get it. Move on.

Jeez - I did a double take on the obscenity and actually had to look up the meaning just to be sure. Pathetic use of the term, dude.

I get your point, but be better. We are all part of the same community; no need to devolve into childish (in the guise of being bougie) name calling.

If an XM post makes it to the main page, it will attract a lot of negative comments. Please reference every iX post that did the same. The XM is an even more polarizing vehicle than the iX, and owners should just expect there to be negative comments, ignoring them is usually the best thing to do. As far as not liking it, and buying something else, for the first time in years I have no BMW in my garage, my iX M60 was only kept for 2 months, and after numerous issues, including Tesla like phantom braking, it was traded in. I took a huge hit in the pocket book (MSRP of $119,620 US and recived trade of $93,000) but my Taycan has been flawless.

Without the gold trim it looks nice. Some color combos are just wonky. Still way better than the iX. I think we are getting past the early designs (G80, ix, i4) and getting towards something better overall.

Get used to the hate, the G80 hate is still very strong. Polarizing designs so you have to expect that.

It took only a couple posts until someone got defensive w/o anyone saying anything negative about the vehicle. Why is that huge sensitivity? Some people like it some don't, like anything else. Let people speak their minds even if you don't like it. Tolerance is what this forum needs.

It just gets boring. People genuinely doing research or wondering what people’s actual experiences with the car are get drowned out with a bunch of noise that isn’t helpful or productive. It’s not much different than movies or games getting review bombed by a small population segment who doesn’t really represent the general consensus.

I'm just coming up on the break-in limit on mine. Picked it up Mon, it's Fri afternoon. Love it more each day. Joy to drive, joy to sit in. Heading to LA tomorrow (from SD) for a full day round trip and looking forward to the drive in a way that I haven't recently.

It isn’t about hate of the XM. It’s about BMW not being BMW. If Porsche started making squared off cars, or Ferrari stopped making red cars, then those loyal to the brand have a right to say something. And not just once or only in forums they belong in. I’ve spent a ton of money on BMW. I own 4 of them currently. If BMW chooses to stop being what they have been for the past 50 years that’s fine. But we all have a right, when that happens, to ask BMW to stop it.

BMW may not read the forums but they have to be listening to something. The new M5 certainly is more consistent with the BMW we know. I think BMW is listening more than we think and I also think they realize several of their recent designs aren’t going to age well.

I’m sorry but I don’t think you get it man.
Just go ahead and buy the ”BMW you know” then and be happy about that. If fellow BMW Friends in this forum are happy about their new XM, be happy with your fellow BMW Friends instead of wakening the ugly part of your inside and choose a way to express yourself that make you sound like a grumpy old man.
The future is here and sooner you accept it the happier you will be. Take care now and enjoy your 4 BMW’s

Reputation 0? Did you create an account just to reply? There’s nothing to”get” here. It’s just people expressing opinions. I am happy for any BMW owner who’s excited about their vehicle. And I do buy the BMW I know, which is why I don’t have an XM or G80 sitting in my garage. But you’re missing the point. The future is whatever BMW designers decide it is. Had they stayed more traditional none of us would know the difference. And they have stayed more traditional with their other cars. Which is why I mention the M5. If the future was these outlandish designs then BMW would be making all their cars that way, but they aren’t. The G90 M5 and the 3.0 CSL are more likely the future than the XM. The XM is just an experiment. Do you really think this is the future?

Good observation I opened up an account here since i’m receiving my XM within 4-5 weeks in Sweden and I was hoping to get some useful insights, reviews etc from you guys in the US since you were the first ones to receive the car.
What happened was that I got i little bit disappointed over the tone in some of the threads in this forum, some of the wording from some people is to me totally unacceptable and totally unnecessary.
Expressing opinion is one thing, I’m totally with you on that. But you must admit that some of the posts here is more than that?
And to be honest. Yes the gold rims with that green colour that you shared in your post, it’s not my first choice and I would never have bought the car of that was the only option. But I would NEVER go down on a BMW friend who posts a pic on his XM with gold rims and green colour and say that was the ugliest car I have ever seen. That so disrespectful and has nothing to do with ”expressing opinion”.
But luckily there are plenty more to choose from. So when you post that pic and asking me if I think thats the future, you really being fair since you picked the most special color with the most special rim. Do you agree on that one?

You say that you are disappointed, yet, you do the same thing yourself. You show no respect to other BMW enthusiasts' concerns about the latest design language. If one cannot show a car that BMW manufactured to express their dislike just because someone owns it, then that means you really do not want to hear any negative criticism about that vehicle because you love it. This forum exists only because people express their thoughts and feelings about BMW vehichles and it is one of the few legitimate platforms to do so. People have different preferences. If everybody were to like the same thing, we would have one car in one color and no civilized discussions about its design. No need to be upset and bitter when some people don't like what you do.

Ugly, expensive garbage. I hope this car fails and BMW pulls it and reevaluates their brand.
