Charging times and battery capacity

For now, it takes around 3h10 on 220V for 21kWh of charging with either the Combined Charging Unit of the M @ 32A or my charging station TechnoVE. I’m pretty happy with that part, less with the net capacity of the battery (19.2kWh net on the 29.5 kWh overall). I get around 46 km of usable electric distance

I haven’t finished testing the charging unit on 110V @ 10A (doing it at the moment), the estimate is tad more than 24h (like 27h).

I’m really eager to get the stats from the reste of the world with the supposed 25.7 kWh usable capacity.

My range had varied a lot which I think depends on both driving conditions and temperature. Best I got so far is 40 miles...

What is charging time for standard US 120V wall outlet? I don’t plan on installing 240V outlet unless I go full EV in the future….

Wow

I live in a condo and only have sporadic access to a 240v charger so I also plan on trickle charging with 120V. 30-31 hours is much longer than I could possible imagine. I want to use full electric for my daily commute, which is only 18 miles round trip. Hopefully, with that usage, nightly charging (about 13 hours) will be adequate to power my commutes.

As some have discussed with the 50e, you could make sure you have a 20 amp socket and adequate wiring size and be able to charge at 16A instead of 10A with another charger or aim for 12A (80% of the 15A circuit capacity). The way I see it, you’re almost at 1.2 kWh per hour of charging or up to 1.4 kWh (@12A). You need around 21 kWh to fill the 19.2 kWh net capacity because of some energy loss. Maybe around 16h could do the trick as I did 5 kWh in 4h20 @10A with the BMW charger.

I often get like 5% less than the quoted range since I use only electric mode till it dies and I like to use 100% of the electric motor when I accelerate and I do like my climate control to run extensively. Then I get a few more clicks of electricity with the small hybrid mode regen.

A little update I posted in another thread
It took 26h50min on 110V to charge. App says 30 kWh, a lot of electric loss…

I also compared to MY2024 X5 50e. It has the same charger but misses the L2 adaptor that we received with our XM (NEMA 14-50) for the combined charging unit
