Love our X7. Best large SUV we’ve had. We went with black with M sport pro which has a slimming factor, but I think it looks great in any color.

The success of X7 can be anecdotally gauged by how many are owned by my neighbors. Several X7 in a 3 block radius.
Nice video! |

I DO love the look of a Range Rover and they are off-road beasts! But for a daily driver... not for me. |

Hmmm X7 competes with Mercedes GLS.
That would make sense. Range Rover is in a class of its own. I have owned many Range Rovers being flawless. Currently on my 4th Range Rover SV, superb. The only substitute for Range Rover is: Mercedes G63. If any. p.s., I am talking only of Range Rover (not Range Rover Sport, Range Rover Velar or Range Rover Evoque). Land Rover (the company) became greedy and placed Range Rover logo on Sport, Velar and Evoque

Btw we all know the difference between RR, LR, and the model variants. But thanks for explaining to us Plebs…. “RR is in a class of its own.” Hilarious. |

But my personal opinion is that I FEEL like I got what I paid for with my M60 X7 and I didn't feel that way with the Range Rover. |

RR drives very well especially off road. Have you owned any Rangie or G Wagon, you will be surprised. Quote:

My niece has a Range Rover and loves it. I had a Jaguar for 4 years without any mechanical or electrical issues. It was perfect. They have a bad rep from the days of old, British Leland then Ford. I felt TaTa righted the ship.

JLC (Jaguar Land Rover plc) needs to work on their bad rep, etc. especially in states. Also, Range Rovers has the highest satisfaction and strong loyalty among owners. On top of it repeat customers/ownership.

As a former BMW owner and still fan, and a current 23 RR owner they are very similar in a number of ways and also very different. If like us you were shopping for a 3-row European SUV (ie not a GM or Ford truck based huge SUV) you have three practical options: X7, GLS and now with this generation the Range Rover. We now have theee of them and still love them, warts and all - there is nothing else that really drives like them, but that isn’t to everybody’s taste. The X7 we found to lack personality and seemed somewhat generic but handled well. The new front end styling is hideous (the reviewers comment about large grilles being popular in the US is laughable.) The GLS felt a little more unique but has that soft Merc feel that leaves something to be desired and the interior felt cheap for the price. Both need a V8 to feel special, and even then didn’t feel like good value.
We were fortunate given ownership history to get an early 7 seat LWB V8 RR and went with it. It’s had its issue as we have come to expect, but it really drives like nothing else and love the design. My wife doesn’t like the image part - feels too flashy for her and the service things are tiring after a while - so we are looking again at X7/GLS. People that view it as a status symbol, I don’t get it. Still mass produced and as much as JLR like to push the image part of it, it’s off putting for us. EDIT: Worth noting we got the best part from the BMW, the TT V8 is a monster and pairs very well with the new RR chassis.

The X7 beats the Range Rover in almost every category, probably except for comfort. Which to be fair is way too important. I’d still prefer the X7 over a Range Rover though, 100%.

Range Rover has to pilfer engines from BMW and they get the inferior versions. BMW wouldn’t take anything off RR shelves.
One is a badge or lifestyle brand. The other is a serious engineering company.

I buy vehicles on looks, cost, performance in that order. Then I hope for reliability. Jeep Grand Cherokee looks great, excellent value, and have several proven engines to choose from. I’m on my 3rd one now ( Trailhawk) as my daily and all have been reliable and solid as a rock . But… I want a RR someday. I think. 🤔

RR Woes
I've owned the LR4, RR Sport and a full size 2016 RR all V8's, never had a problem with any and mostly reliable as my old Toyota Corolla hatchback from college. They must be looked after. I waited and waited for the new RR to come available without the 20k markup over sticker!! I am now in the 2024 Alpina XB7. I miss the RR off road capability and if the right spec full size RR appears near by I will definitely go look. Got to say though that the Alpina absolutely blows away any RR I've owned in driving dynamics and overall engineering. Probably the 2024 RR SV would come closest at 225k, (way out of my budget) otherwise, no comparison. Still love the RR total driving feeling though, LOL...

Its funny you say this when in the US.
Here in the UK, the X7 is more exclusive as there are a lot less on the road compared to the RR. I love the look of the new RR but can't help thinking that the build quality is no where near as good as the X7 when comparing the two.

Land Rover sold total of 299,000 vehicles in 2022, worldwide. Compare to BMW, whereas sold 2.4 million vehicles in same year. Quality wise: I have owned '23 RR ATB and now '24 RR SV. Superb. JLR never care to fix their bad rep

I’ve been kicking around the idea of trading in my X7 for a RR for a year or two - almost since I got it - because it’s not just my daily driver but also our road trip car. I’d really like a little bit more utility, and after doing research and several test drives the only problem I really seem to have with my X7 is the staggered 22s which makes it impossible to get all weather tires and flats out of town nightmarish so as long as I remember to not do that on my next one I’ll be set. RR is the clear winner for heavy off-roading and towing (I think) but the X7 can handle light off-roading, snowy mountains with the right tires, and driving in the sand on the beach just fine and that’s really all most anyone needs. |
