Offroad battle - BMW X7, G63, Range Rover, Land Cruiser, GLS 450, LX 570, QX80

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
I stumbled across this very interesting video on Youtube comparing the offroad capabilities of BMW X7, G63, Range Rover, Land Cruiser, GLS 450, LX 570, QX80

Majority of us will never likely to drive our X7 as shown in the video, but it sure was fun to watch.

I can't believe they did that with those summer tires. It would've been much easier for the x7 with some sort off road tires

Interesting. And done in Khazakstan, no less.

Spoiler summary, X7 came in 2nd (3rd?) with this gentleman behind the Range Rover and G63 which tied for 1st. X7 very capable.

As he points out, I'd also be interested to see how an X7 would perform differently, without the offroad package, which is rare for X7 builds. not often found.

Awesome to see The X7 on 3 wheels like that with one several feet off the ground, and it powers through. Drivers can experience similar things at the BMW performance center offroad course.

All I'll say is that I would take G wagon from those.

It's a pointless comparison because no one takes any of those off road. Maybe Land Cruiser years ago, with their prices now, people are storing them more then driving.

LX is overpriced land cruiser

Some other are just ok and some ehh, didn't even watch RK the end, moor points

Without watching I would have expected the G wagon or RR to come out on top. They have more of an off road design. Good showing by the X7

Yes and no. I've taken my QX80 off road many times. We have 14 acres of off road woods near the river in the mountains of West Virginia.

So some of us do use them off road. But I'd probably never take a BMW or Mercedes up in our mountains.

The G wagon ride is horrible in comparison. It’s interior design still feels cramped and outdated. It’s a vehicle that has too many compromises to do anything well. It’s a expensive Wrangler for what it’s original purpose was designed for but the Rap stars moved from Wranglers to G Wagons so it’s cool.
I had one for a full day as a loaner. Meh, not impressed. For real difficult /technical off road capability, my Power Wagon would drag a G Wagon through the mud and rocks without front or rear lockers engaged.

Here is the X7 on 22” street tires in a tougher off road course with more scientific results. Considering the X7 is a entirely new platform/vehicle, it certainly fine tuned its purpose with laser precision. Good off road ability without any sacrifice in ultimate luxury ride and handling. A mountain climber in a Armani suit.

Maybe not as much in the US but in other countries plenty of people take those off road and drive the crap out of them. Any of these will do fine off road. Usually driver's comfort level and skill level max out way before vehicle's capability is reached.

Personally Toyota/Lexus SUVs would be my choice if overlanding was my goal since there is so much aftermarket support for them. But xdrive is pretty good system and I was impressed during off road tour in performance center in SC.

Yes, but if you watch the video, the RR has the easiest time and there is a significant difference compared to #3 and down…on this course.

However, this channel also did a similar test with Mid sized SUV and the RR Sport was even better than the RR here.

The QX80 is the Nissan Patrol and the LX is the land cruiser. The land cruiser's main value is that they don't break down and keep going…

X7 beating the GLS and especially the Landcruiser on this course is pretty amazing!

None of them are off-road vehicles. Period.

Here is what you should be driving if you want to go off-road. Not 100k luxury vehicle.

Agree, I was talking about US market, off roading is mainly old Jeeps and some old 4runners

You are one and only to take Infiniti of road, I know it's capable, it's generally used as a great alternative to a minivan with luxury and awd benefits

Well said. The X7 is not an "off-road vehicle", but does off-road very well. (I'm taking mine today on another long rugged Alaska journey)

For a brand new model, the X7 is surprisingly well tuned. Not perfect, but everything just fits. The handling, the luxury, the engine power... BMW really hit a home run with the X7. Now if they can just fix a few things like seat controls design...
