Question for M50i Owners
Featured on BIMMERPOST.com I was going to buy the 40i decked out individual color and everything but it sucks because I can’t get the upgraded stereo which is a Harman kardon and I’m a sucker for a good stereo so my only choice is wait for the 2023 or get the M50i which I would have to pay $10,000 difference |

In NY my X6 40i got me 16 MPG combined and now my X6MC gets me around 12-13 combined driving the same routes.
So the hit really isnt that bad, and Im probably (lol definitely) driving my MC a lot harder. On a long 200 mile highway drive, the 40i would return an easy 26 mpg while the MC returns about 21. Again, not bad at all for a 4.4 liter twin turbo with 4 different cooling pumps. |

Here in the Minneapolis suburbs I get about 16.5 around town, on the highway I got about 20-21. Thru 7600 miles (75% Highway) I am at 19.7 mpg. But I've got a light foot, even when in sport mode about 1/2 the time.

5000 miles in - average is 16 mpg. Live in a hilly area. Highway driving is about 50% of the time. Latest 750 mi holiday trip with a roof rack and with holiday traffic jams showed 18.4 mpg.

In that case you'll want the Bowers and Wilkins. I had HK in my X7 30d for 2 years and never thought about wanting a better sound system. It was more than adequate.
Then I upgraded to X7 M50i with B&W and omg the difference is night and day. See if you can find one at dealers to compare HK and B&W. But be warned you'll be spoiled by B&W and can't go back. Last edited by lukehhhhh; 08-05-2021 at 06:57 AM.. |

Sorry, I cannot resist:
I appreciate that you may not have the diesel options of X7 available in the States, but I just managed 41 mpg (5.7 litres / 100 km) on a recent trip on rural country lanes - that is absolutely crazy for a car of this size & weight! And yes, the car has the Harman Kardon |

If you are considering M50i due to lack of sound options and willing to pay $10k-15k more then MPG pinch wont be much.

14-15 mixed and 20-22 on road trips is what I typically see. Coming from multiple X5 35d's the one thing I miss is not having to fill up weekly, but oh that sound...

Do not get the M50i if you're concerned about gas mileage. You'll be disappointed. What you won't be disappointed with is the experience, especially if it's loaded out with DHP and the B&W. I get about 12/13 city and 20-22 on longer highway trips. You can throw the car in eco mode and get slightly better MPG, but then you're neutering the beast. Good luck! … GET THE M50i 🤣
