Modern smoke and CO2 detectors (working together) are all you really need to catch a fire from its onset Make sure you have both installed in your garage and you'll be alerted well in advance

You would think that the car being driven 384 miles and being a x7, that the recall issue would have been fixed prior to the build finishing. Hopefully there is another factor such as rodents and hopefully not a new vehicle that was built incorrectly after the recall.

What happened to all of the pictures? Also, I can't view that Facebook page.
Also, for the poster that wanted some type of sensor, I use this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0872ZWV8X...v_ov_lig_dp_it It has an alarm function that will trip on a certain temperature or humidity. It's mainly used for wine rooms, but it can be used anywhere for anything. They have a multi-room sensor as well. |

Yeah, pics disappeared for me too. Might be some hotlinking thing with Facebook. I uploaded them again as attachments here.
I think you have to be a member of the BMW X7 Owners Club facebook group to watch the video or see the post itself.

I don't have a 2021 so not sure what exactly is in the front driver side area. I had a loner X5 for a couple weeks. it was a 2021 with the mild hybrid and when I looked under the hood, there were some thick purple wires (for the 48V system I'm guessing) and what looked like some AC stuff. I read that the R1234 refrigerant is flammable. I was thinking the flames shooting out the front driver side in the video may be the pressurized refrigerant shooting out. It only lasted a few seconds in the video. But that doesn't explain what caused the initial blaze. |

Ok. 48 Volts is a lot more susceptible to arcing. It also explains why the hood completely burned away as a petroleum fire takes a long time to burn through aluminum. That intense, concentrated heat are hallmarks of a lithium fire.
If I were to guess, the 48 Volt lithium battery was the culprit. I wish I can see the video. Can anyone post it here? Mercedes is having major issues with their mild-hybrid system. I think Audi is one of the few manufacturers that hasn’t reported a lot of issues with their 48 Volt system. At least not yet. |
