48V system. Another reason why the 2020 X7 is the year to have.

If I were to guess, the 48 Volt lithium battery was the culprit. I wish I can see the video. Can anyone post it here?

Mercedes is having major issues with their mild-hybrid system. I think Audi is one of the few manufacturers that hasn’t reported a lot of issues with their 48 Volt system. At least not yet.
I tried to find it, but someone posted about the 48V system with a schematic when it was first announced, and I think the battery was on the front passenger side.

If you read the thread you'll see it was mentioned a few times that it was a 40i with 48V mild hybrid.

“Update: inspections were concluded and I only have BMW’s results, to which state the staggered tire setup was reversed after I had my wheels powder coated so that the rear 315’s were on the front and the front 275’s were on the rear. The rubbing of the front tires caused a fire. Am chasing my insurance’s inspector to get their conclusion to see if there was agreement. Apparently there is a motion by my insurance to further check this in a lab with a mechanical engineer.”

Ugh... I've had a tire shop put my rears on my front before on my 330i. Caught it as soon as I saw the car and had them do it again.

That's terrible, if the shop put the wheels on backwards like that, especially causing this fire and burning down a brand new $100k+ car.

The Shop's insurance/business should take care of your situation if they are at fault right ?

Yeah, I would think the owner's insurance will go after the shop's insurance if that's the case. Hopefully the guy that powder coated them had a real shop with real insurance and it wasn't just something they were doing on the side... Otherwise, someone's life is about to get ruined.

I suppose you could see the difference with the owners before pic (last pic in OP's first post). The front wheels basically look like they have spacers compared to the back.

The same thing happened to my X7 in November. I was driving home from getting my oil changed and my engine caught fire. BMW is currently investigating to see what caused the fire. So scary

I can only speculate that there was oil or gasoline spillage in the compartment that ultimately combusted, for whatever reason. It's so unusual for a B58 engine to combust.

Was this also caused due to incorrect tire placement, like the other one ?

Wondering as well, the front tires look wide in the picture but that could also be placebo and/or the melted tire.

This reminded me of my own stupidity. I changed oil and forgot to put the cap. I took it for a quick spin and noticed different engine sound and quickly realized my mistake. Thinking back I m glad I stopped before something happened.
